Art. Medicine. Skateboarding. 🧠🎨🛹

That intersection is what Boards N’ Brains is all about.

Through this SABER Foundation program, high school students are introduced to topics in neuroscience and challenged to turn what they learn into an original piece of artwork. Each skateboard graphic becomes its own educational message—exploring subjects such as stroke, epilepsy, brain tumors, dementia, brain health and neurological disease through the perspective of a young artist.

The six decks featured here represent just a small sample from our current collaboration with Exeter High School. Over the years, SABER has also brought Boards N’ Brains to students at El Diamante High School and Davis Senior High School, using skateboarding as an unexpected canvas for science, creativity and education.

And the art won’t stop with Boards N’ Brains.

At the 5th Annual Cotton Jam Skate Health Activation, Visalia professional skateboarder Dale Blackmon will showcase artwork influenced by the mind and his experiences through skateboarding and life. Fresno professional skateboarder Ryan Johnson — AKA Arkitect — will also be displaying his artwork as part of the event.

Come see what happens when art, neuroscience, medicine and skateboarding collide.

There just aren’t enough truly unique people walking around this planet.

Every once in a while, though, you get lucky enough to cross paths with someone who has that unmistakable spark. Who sees the world a little differently, and who carries an energy you don’t come across every day.

I recently had the opportunity to spend some time behind the camera with legendary pro skater, Ryan Johnson in Fresno, CA. What started as a photo shoot turned into one of those encounters that reminded me why I love art in many forms. Art has a wide range spectrum of expression, and Ryan reminded me of that. Whether it's skating, photography, music, poetry, crafts, tattoo artist, painter, etc, etc. Express yourself before you wreck yourself.

Come see Ryan Johnson and other legends skate at the fifth annual Cotton Jam Saturday, October 3rd in Corcoran California. @cottonjam_saber @saber.foundation

Fresno skate legend Ryan Johnson, aka Arkitect, is coming back to Cotton Jam. 🛹

Ryan has experienced Cotton Jam firsthand, and what keeps bringing him back is the community around it—the family vibe, the people who genuinely support skateboarding, and an event built around giving something back to the Central Valley.

This year, Ryan joins us as one of our Legendary Special Guests for the 5th Annual Cotton Jam, bringing decades of Central Valley skate history with him.

As the Arkitect, he will also be providing some live entertainment you don't want to miss.
