Finally recovered from a quick 18-hour trip to Chicago to see Wolf Alice and Olivia Rodrigo. The show was OUTSTANDING! My photos are not good, but I really liked that I finally caught Joff’s guitar toss at the end of “Play The Greatest Hits”. (Julia Cumming filled in on bass for Theo and did a great job.)
I don’t do a lot of arena shows, but Olivia’s team managed to make United Center feel small and intimate with a horseshoe main stage and two smaller stages so the whole place got a close view. The energy of of the overwhelmingly young female audience made every song a singalong and they gave her everything they had. She had boundless energy and a real feel for the moment. Her band (featuring @joeyssong alum, Jordan Radnoti) was powerful, polished and full of showmanship (showwomanship?). Anyway, I’m already jealous of everyone who gets to see Wolf Alice again today at the Empty Bottle and tonight at United Center.

night 1 in chicago was incredible!! I can’t believe we get to do it again tonight, and that I have the opportunity to play with such amazing musicians and songwriters, @wolfaliceband.

these are some of the things in my makeup bag and suitcase that make me feel show-ready. you don’t need new or expensive things to feel good on stage.

quickly becoming one of my favorite moments in the set…@steadyll is one of the most fun bass players to watch and listen to in rock and I’m so lucky to fill in for him on this special tour.

Every now and then there are moments in the studio that you simply cannot explain. Anything from a small idea that elevates a track, to a vocal take that captures the exact energy that you were hoping for. Every recording artist will know the euphoria of those special moments and just how much they mean. Grateful for the most amazing studio week tracking with my brother @ryanmalcs 🫶🏻
