Not every successful career path looks like a traditional 9-to-5🎬✨

In this clip, Ryan Nilsen @ryannilsen_ talks about knowing early on that he wanted to work in entertainment because he loved being part of a team creating something that would entertain people.

For Ryan, the collaborative nature of the industry was a huge draw.

He shares how, as someone with ADHD, he found a lot of fulfillment in an environment that’s constantly changing, creative, and built around working with others toward a common goal.

That doesn’t mean people with ADHD can’t thrive in traditional office jobs. They absolutely can.

But Ryan’s story is a great reminder that there are many different career paths out there, and sometimes finding the right fit is about understanding how you work best and what energizes you.

For him, that was storytelling, collaboration, and being part of creating something bigger than himself.

Success in this industry isn’t accidental… it’s intentional. 🎬✨

In this clip, Ryan Nilsen @ryannilsen_ shares his advice for aspiring producers: move with intention.

Know what you’re working toward. Keep your goals in mind. Be realistic about the steps it takes to get there, and make sure your priorities align with the life and career you’re trying to build.

Ryan talks about how competitive Los Angeles and the entertainment industry can be. Sometimes doing what’s expected isn’t enough and you have to be willing to give that extra 10%.

That extra email.
That extra follow-up.
That extra hour of preparation.
That extra bit of effort when no one is watching.

The people who consistently go the extra mile are often the ones who create opportunities for themselves.

Be intentional. Be persistent. And don’t underestimate the power of that extra 10%🚀

You never know which opportunity is going to lead to the next one🎬✨

In this clip, Ryan Nilsen @ryannilsen_ shares how a connection with a producer named Natalie changed everything.

She invited him to PA on a short film. He showed up, worked hard, and did a good job. That led to another opportunity of PA’ing on a feature film, where he got to meet one of his filmmaking idols, Jim Cummings.

Ryan says Jim was incredibly down-to-earth, and the experience couldn’t have gone any better.

As a bonus, Ryan even landed a small acting role in the movie.

His biggest advice?

Have clear, achievable goals. Put yourself in the position to succeed. Trust your intuition. Be persistent. Be consistent.

Because most “overnight successes” are really the result of showing up over and over again until the right opportunity finds you.

Temple University made LA feel a whole lot smaller🦉✨

In this clip, Ryan Nilsen @ryannilsen_ and Mia LePage @mialepage talk about reconnecting at a Temple University alumni @templealumni event in Los Angeles and why choosing Temple @templeuniv was one of the best decisions we ever made.

Ryan shares an incredible story from his very first campus visit. Before he had even applied to Temple, a professor introduced him to a grad student working on a thesis film. Within minutes, Ryan was invited to work as a PA on the project that very weekend.

Before he was a student, before he was enrolled, before he had even submitted an application… he was already getting hands-on experience.

That moment told him everything he needed to know about Temple’s film and media program and the opportunities available to students.

For both of us, Temple didn’t just teach us about the entertainment industry… it connected us to it.

Go Owls!🦉❤️

Ever wondered what ADR actually is?🎙️🎬

In this clip, Ryan Nilsen @ryannilsen_ breaks down a behind-the-scenes part of post-production that most viewers never think about: ADR (Automated Dialogue Replacement)🗣️

As episodes are being edited together, there’s often a running list of lines that need to be re-recorded, whether it’s because of background noise, unclear audio, or a line that just needs a cleaner read.

That’s where the Post-Production Coordinator comes in.

Ryan explains that part of the job is managing the ADR process: reaching out to actors’ reps, coordinating schedules, figuring out where talent is located, and getting everyone into a recording studio to capture those replacement lines.

It’s one of those jobs that audiences never see, but it plays a huge role in making sure the final product sounds seamless.

Just another example of the many people working behind the scenes to bring your favorite shows to life🎧✨

From pitching ideas to producing them🎬✨

In this clip, Ryan Nilsen @ryannilsen_ shares how he became the Story Producer for FOX Reality Check with Kalen Allen.

After being invited by fellow Temple University alum Kalen Allen to pitch segment ideas for the show, Ryan came prepared with a ton of concepts and confidently pitched his vision. The production company was impressed, and before long, he found himself stepping into his first major story producer role.

Now, his day-to-day involves creating segments, developing ideas, and helping shape conversations around some of FOX’s biggest competition shows, including The Masked Singer, Fear Factor, MasterChef, and other Gordon Ramsay projects.

Think Watch What Happens Live, but for the world of reality competition TV.

Ryan shares that it’s been the most rewarding creative outlet of his career and his favorite project he’s worked on so far.

Proof that sometimes one opportunity, one pitch, and one person believing in you can change everything✨

Can audiences tell when something feels forced? 🎬👀

In this clip, Ryan Nilsen @ryannilsen_ talks about the fine line between producing great content and overproducing it.

As a story producer, he’s sensitive to moments where you can feel a producer’s hand too much. When something feels forced, viewers start questioning whether it’s authentic.

Ryan believes less is often more.

The best producers don’t tell people what to do… they create the framework for authentic moments to happen.

The job involves creating a template and a space for the host to thrive.

That’s where the magic happens✨

Samuel L. Jackson thought Ryan was Moon Knight… or did he? 😂

In this clip, Ryan Nilsen @ryannilsen_ shares one of the funniest moments from his time working at Marvel.

While walking through Marvel’s offices, he heard Samuel L. Jackson say:

“Who’s that big white man at the end of the hallway?”

Ryan assumed he was talking about him, so he turned around and said hello.

Samuel quickly replied:

“No, not you, man.” 😂

Turns out he was talking about Moon Knight’s all-white costume displayed in a glass case at the end of the hallway.

Definitely one of the funniest Call Sheet Confessions yet.
