At @carriage.works for @skate__of__mind @bighart_online skate community design consultation session for their upcoming skateable art works in development. Project led by Lincoln Smith with skateable art by @hartlandreid, support by @pass_port and liaison with Susan, Michael and the creative events team at Carriageworks.

The design consultation session was open to the public, and we were invited to comment on two street inspired obstacles. A stone bench and kicker, but with creative potential for community-informed modification. Input included for unique urban beauty and function and due respect for both Gadigal Country Indigenous Land and the industrial archeology (heritage) of the skate spot planning and architectural considerations.

The materials will be up-cycled and sustainable where possible, and non-moveable without a fork lift. The skate space is shared for other rotating uses, under cover and offers Sydney skaters a new important space for meeting and community initiatives (meaningful connections through art, healing, wellness, and creative skate pop ups etc).

Reach out to @skate__of__mind @hartlandreid to see the progress.

I can’t wait to research their journey and outcomes at @skatecerlab. After researching skate urbanism and skate designs internationally including at @connect.skaturbanism.festival @citymillskate @tramlinespot @longlivesouthbank @sydney_uni @festurbanism and seeing successful skate architecture integrated in France, Copenhagen, Finland, Malmo, Germany, Switzerland and UK recently it’s timely to see more projects like this one by Big H’Art pop up.

Stoked we also got a women’s and non-trad skate crew together with Madi, Matilda, Clau and me. And really great to get to hear ideas from Lockie, Linc, Aaron, Ryan, Riely, Ben C, Sam, Ben, Matt, Finn, and everyone.
