EXERCISE HIGHLIGHT 🏒

RFESS: Rear Foot Elevated Split Squat

Otherwise known as the Bulgarian Split Squat

Strength and stability on one leg

Which is pretty important for acceleration and agility on the ice or on flat ground regardless of your sport!

For hockey it matches the forward knee drive and hip extension angles you want on the ice

Anecdotally our athletes love it for the large range of motion the hips get with a big stretch for the hip flexors

Which opens up stride length

And loading it with a weight in each hand has a lower “orthopedic cost” compared to loading with a barbell on the back

Which means less stress on the system and quicker recovery times

And a much lower orthopedic cost than the comparative stimulus each leg gets from performing a back squat

During this last phase of the summer we’re using the RFESS not only for strength but as a primer for the nervous system in a French Contrast circuit to develop both maximal power and speed

PRO THT GAIN DAY 🏒

Setting the tone for the week each Monday

We’ve moved into our last block of the summer that includes less volume and more contrast work

Less stress to the body

More power for speed & acceleration

The goal is to peak heading into pre-season camp

Body feels it’s best while also firing on all cylinders
