The past 6 years have been such a blessing. I remember in in seventh grade. I was sitting in the stands when Christian Balcer ran the state record in the mile, I remember thinking, “Wow, I wanna do that.” I carried that with me the rest of my seventh grade season and finished fourth at the state meet. The next couple of years I struggled through injuries. So much so that my ninth grade season I didn’t run at all. I learned a lot during that time. More importantly, though I grew 8 inches and focused on my legendary YouTube channel, leprechaun track club. Going into the cross country season my sophomore year I was ranked 22nd out of all sophomores according to Milesplit. That bothered me a lot because I knew I was a lot better than that. After my first race that season, I shot up to fourth and then eventually first by the end of it. I carried that momentum in the track running a sub 10 2 mile and a 4:24 mile, which ranked me 10th on the all time list in Mississippi. Fortunately throughout my junior year cross-country season, I stayed healthy and ran a time that would rank me seventh in the state. Track started out good that year, however, before I could really get rolling, I broke my leg and had to sit out for 2 to 3 months. I worked so hard that summer going into cross country, running the most miles I had ever, and I was rewarded with a very consistent season, however I still fell short of my goals. Going into track I wanted to do something big, so I worked even harder, and it worked I led the state in the two mile and mile for a couple months and set some big PRs. Eventually state came around, and I completed the triple in the three distance events. I can’t even imagine a world where I didn’t run. The friendships I’ve had, the memories we’ve made, and just the community that has formed has made such an impression on me. With that, I’m not sad that it’s over, I’m happy it happened.
