POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

A jam packed weekend full of firsts and unforgettable memories. Cade and Rylan drew youth HSTE tags. It’s a place I haven’t hunted so a few scouting trips and I felt we could find some suitable candidates.

We setup camp about 1 am Friday morning after a 7 hour jaunt from town.

5:30 am, sleepy eyes and blurred vision. Cade was up first. As the kids milled around slurping cereal and muffins in camp pre dawn, I glassed out and found a group of antelope to try our hand at. Walaa, we took off on foot from camp and Cade made a great stalk to notch his first ever tag by 7:30 am. We got his cleaned up on ice and spent the rest of the day actually experiencing Antelope hunting.

Rylan had some close calls that day but quickly learned what a “snort/weeze” is and we watched a few scamper out of range.

The next morning unfolded similar to the first day. We ended up a couple miles from camp after playing cat and mouse. Curiosity got the best of her antelope and he ran in to about 70yds from 500. The shuffle was real as we went from prone, kneeling, and eventually standing as it crested right in front of us.

This group of kids were covered in a couple lbs of poof dirt and learned that mesquites can be pretty relentless.

Post hunt was filled with some camp stories, smores, natural hot spring swims and failed fishing attempts. Life’s a blur at times but when the dust settles, they remember it all.

BUT....I will say no matter what day it is, no matter what trend is happening over social media, I FREAKING LOVE THESE TWO SHITLINS OF MINE more than ANYTHING in this crazy crazy world we live in, & I thank the Universe for giving me all the headaches these two have constantly given me over the last decade of being their Momma of a Referee. ❤️❤️
