“Well done, my good and faithful servant.”

On September 27, 2026, Ricardo Sweetney, our beloved husband and father transitioned. Although our hearts are heavy, we believe that to be absent from the body is to be present with God. Rick was blessed with 66 years of life, 39 years of marriage, 5 kids, 4 grandkids, and an abundance of family and friends who meant the world to him. Rick was a giant. He was a man of unwavering faith, boundless love, and light. At his core, he loved people. He saw people. He encouraged people. He had a contagious energy that made you feel at home and there was never a moment when he wasn’t pouring wisdom into others. Though he’s no longer with us, he leaves behind a legacy that will carry on in the hearts of the people whose lives he touched.

We look forward to honoring Rick’s life in Maryland; his forever home, and the place where his life impacted so many. Details regarding his celebration of life service are to come.

Rick valued family, friendship, and fellowship. As we prepare to honor his life, it would mean the world to us if you shared any photos, videos, and stories you may have of him. We’d love to be able to paint a picture of his lasting impact.

THE SWEETNEYS didn’t just bring their luggage from out of town; they brought the absolute HEAT to @theclaytheatre! 🔥 From a first dance that literally looked like heaven (dancing on a cloud?! YES PLEASE ☁️) to a dance floor that stayed packed all night, this wedding was a total vibe.

Rylan to see you grow and mature is nothing short of beautiful. I am so very proud of you for stepping into the decision to love. You have been another representation to me of what is not only possible but deserved❤️ Niya I’ve quietly cheered you on in the background since you were a teenager and now I get to love you out loud as MY SISTER ❤️😍 You guys made me ugly cry and smile from ear to ear all weekend.
