This weekend @sharpandfine is performing in a Iphigenia. From the dance to the story to the music, it absolutely took my breathe away. A few months ago I got the chance to take their promotional photos. Our “overwhelm” trio, originally an improv setup we squirreled away back in December, now gracefully resurrected by @smileypiley, @efranklin.tv, and @ryrontosuarus for the last section of IPHIGENIA. TALK STORY was such a sweet, inspiring show. We shared work alongside artists who we admire very much. We all tried out new things. We gave our audience the chance to experience four perspectives on storytelling with dance. And we had delicious snacks! Last week, we had the enormous pleasure of rehearsing for 17.5 hours (almost three times what we usually do in a week), working with our incredible band for the first time, and doing work-in-progress showings for two very thoughtful audiences. We used some of those hours to build this scene, which we’re calling “Agamemnon and Shadow Selves,” and which is a solid 8-ish minutes of intertwined speaking, movement, and storytelling about a man who talks himself into something terrible. We’re so excited about how it came together, and how @wienerkids added sound that amplifies all the tension and horror in such a deliciously cinematic way.
