Ryland Wisooker is a freshman at Southmoore High School (Oklahoma) who celebrated her birthday on Tuesday. Although she did not join her school’s pom team this year, she is focusing on her own training at Top Hat Talent. She described her journey to this point in her Dance Diary.
“I got into dance because my mom danced her whole life and she thought it would be fun for me too,” she said. “I was 4 when i started dancing.”
Dabbling into multiple genres of dance has helped Wisooker progress.
“I’ve pretty much taken all kinds of dance,” she said. “I’ve taken tap, jazz, ballet, hip hop, pom, contemporary, lyrical and even musical theater. My favorite is probably hip hop or musical theater.”
Wisooker has set high goals to achieve in the future.
“I would love to be on either Oklahoma, Kansas or Oklahoma Baptist pom!,” she said. “It’s definitely my dream!”
She is using this year to improve on her skills.
“I didn’t do pom at my high school this year so that I could take a year to improve,” she said. “Right now, I do company dance at Top Hat Talent.
She offered words of wisdom.
“I would tell younger dancers that dance (especially pom) is very hard, but with that it’s also very very rewarding!,” she said. “Dance is a way to have fun and express yourself. Dance has changed my life in the best ways because I’ve worked as hard as I possibly can. Also, friends come and go, but the friends that you make on your pom squad and in your dance studio are there for life!”
