It’s that time of year again!!! After 6 long months of qualifying poetry slams, we have made it to the moment we’ve all been waiting for! THE VERB BENDERS GRAND SLAM FINALS!! Join us February 7th at the @thesuffolkcenter where the top poets of the season will be competing for a spot on our nationally ranked slam team! Doors open at 6:30, the poetry slam will start promptly at 7:30. The cost is $20. Tickets will be available for purchase at the door! The rules for this slam are as follows: All poems have to be original. There will be 3 rounds. Scoring will be all 3 rounds cumulative. No props, music accompaniment or costumes. Judges will score on a scale of 0.0 - 10.0. We will drop the high and low scores and add the middle 3 to give the poet their score for that round. Poets have 3 minutes with a 10 second grace period to wow the judges into the highest score they can receive. For every 10 seconds a poet goes over time, there will be .5 deducted from the final score. Your lineup: @destinysharion87 @doowrag.daniel @thegyexp @prof.symay @maddieg98 @breeanna__banana @atlasnixon @patriciasjournei @roseth0rns @todays_tom.sawyer95 @desi_dezz Sean c @brzthepoet The top 4 poets of this slam will make up our 2024 travel team who will compete at Southern Fried Poetry Slam in Pompano Beach, FL! Early arrival is suggested as the space is going to be PACKED! Plan accordingly! If you have never been to a poetry slam, you are in for a treat! We will see you on the 7th!

About last night!!! All I can say is WOW!!!! As always, sending a huge thank you to everyone who attended our season opener! We had a packed house and for the first time ever, we had a full list of poets who slammed!!! Ahhh what a night!!! More thanks are in order to our host, @atlasnixon ! He kept the energy up all night and we had a blast! Thank you to our judges, our sacrificial poet, our bout staff (@slfive and @jamezillab) and of course our home, @thevenueon35th ! A couple of other highlights, the 2023 team got to see each other after a couple of months of hiatus. And!!! We also had a surprise visit from our 2018 slammaster and one of our founding members, @shanyaladys !!!! So we had 12 poets last night, which is a first for our in-season slam season! Some were brand new to slam, and some were veterans, but either way, everyone did great! The cut went 12/8/4. Here are our standings from last night: @destinysharion87 @doowrag.daniel @maddieg98 @cassandra_isfree @thegyexp @patriciasjournei @jpennywords @terraleighw Lu @d34d_ba3.b Zane Justin Congrats to Destiny Sharion and Daniel for being the first 2 poets to qualify for our grand slam finals! It was a very close game in that final round! First and second place were separated by .1!!!! Our next slam is September 6th, hosted by Daniel! Same time and place! Make sure to save the date and we will see you then! #verbbenders #getbent #bendemtiltheybreak #poetryslam #slampoetry #poetry #spokenword #757poets #poets #writers #performers #v35 #thevenueon35th #thevenueon35thst #prkplcnfk #season8 #3rdinthenation #slampoets #poetswhoslam #inseasonslam#verbbendersslamseason
