OUR BEHAVIOR AND HEALTH HABITS INFLUENCE OUR KIDS AND GRAND KIDS FUTURE

1. Influence of Active Parents
Kids with active parents are 2 to 5 times more likely to be active themselves compared to kids with inactive parents.

If both parents are active, some studies suggest about 70–80% of children maintain higher physical activity levels into adolescence.

2. Fitness and Weight Outcomes
Having one obese parent increases a child’s risk of obesity to about 40–50%; with two obese parents, it rises to 70–80%. The opposite is also true: lean and fit parents dramatically lower the risk.

A large review from the CDC and other international studies shows that family lifestyle habits (exercise, diet, daily routines) are the strongest predictor of whether kids will grow into healthy, fit adults.

3. Behavior Modeling
Kids model behavior: if they see their parents exercising regularly, eating balanced meals, and treating health as a priority, they’re far more likely to adopt those habits.

By adulthood, children of fit parents are significantly more likely (estimates range 50–70%) to stay active and maintain healthy weight compared to peers from sedentary households.

✅ Bottom line: Roughly two-thirds to three-quarters of kids with fit, active parents grow up fit themselves — while kids with inactive or unhealthy parents face a much steeper uphill climb.

#TRUTH: AS A PARENT WITH ALL THE RESPONSIBILITIES WE HAVE IT CAN BE VERY EASY TO NEGLECT OUR HEALTH. I HAVE HAD TO ADJUST MY HABITS FROM NO KIDS TO 1 TO 2 TO 3.
