Six years ago, I raised my hand to help my friends at State Forty Eight as they prepared to launch the State Forty Eight Foundation with a mission to support Arizona based businesses and entrepreneurs.

I’ve never owned a business myself, but I’ve spent my career working alongside entrepreneurs as a loan officer. Through that experience, I’ve come to believe that local small businesses are the lifeblood of our communities.

Supporting them means investing in the people and families who help make Arizona what it is.

One of the Foundation’s goals was creating grant opportunities for Arizona-based entrepreneurs and small businesses. My contribution to that mission was simple: a charity poker tournament that could act as our first official fundraiser.

That first year was memorable for all the wrong reasons.

We just so happened schedule the inaugural event on the same night the Phoenix Suns had an opportunity to clinch the Western Conference Finals and advance to the NBA Finals. We assumed attendance would suffer.

Instead, the opposite happened.

We hoped for 50 attendees. More than 80 people showed up to support Arizona businesses and entrepreneurs. Together, we raised approximately $18,000 and awarded $12,500 in grants to 13 incredible businesses across our state.

Fast forward to last year, and we awarded $50,000 in grants to eight Arizona businesses.

Seeing what started as an idea grow into a program that has helped fund so many entrepreneurs has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my professional life. I am so very grateful to all the sponsors, donors, volunteers, attendees and everyone involved in helping grow this event into the signature Arizona experience it has become.

On July 18th, we’ll gather once again for the 6th Annual Bet on Arizona Charity Poker & Casino Night at Scottsdale Stadium.

This year, our goal is ambitious: award $100,000 in grants to Arizona-based businesses and entrepreneurs.

Every dollar raised helps create opportunities, supports dreams, and strengthen Arizona’s small business community.

Year 6!

Only 5 days away!

P.S. Check out some of the memories I pulled together from each of the 1st 5 years.

Huge thanks to @arizonasfamily and @susancasperTV for having our boys on the morning show! What an incredible experience helping promote our upcoming annual Summer Basketball Camp and Hunter’s Elite Basketball.

Watching these boys grow on and off the court has been one of the most rewarding parts of this journey. They stay locked in 7 days a week, 12 months a year, constantly working to become the best versions of themselves as athletes, students, and young men.

I’m incredibly proud of each and every one of them. The future is bright! We truly appreciate the support from all of our parents and sponsors🧡 #HuntersElite #SummerBasketballCamp #PlayerDevelopment #ArizonaBasketball #FamilyDevelopmentCompete
