Building a meaningful business takes more than a great idea. It takes the courage to begin, the resilience to navigate rejection, the discipline to keep learning, and the ability to turn challenges into opportunities. In this conversation with Lakshmi, Cherie Hoeger, Co-founder and CEO of Saalt, shares the thinking behind building a business that goes beyond profit to create lasting impact. Founded in 2018, Saalt was born from a personal realisation: access to menstrual care should never be a barrier to dignity, education, or opportunity. Today, the company creates reusable period care products, including menstrual cups, discs, and leakproof underwear, while working to make menstrual health more accessible and sustainable. Through its give-back mission, Saalt also supports period care access for women and girls in underserved communities. . From navigating the realities of motherhood and entrepreneurship to challenging the idea of perfect work-life balance, Cherie offers a candid perspective on what it takes to build with purpose. She speaks about learning through experience, finding the right people who believe in your vision, listening to customers, and not letting self-doubt stand in the way of an idea worth pursuing. One of the most powerful takeaways? You don’t need to have every answer before you begin. Sometimes, the most important step is believing you can figure it out along the way. I recently switched from period underwear to a reusable menstrual disc because my periods are absolutely fucking ridiculous, and so far I'm pleasantly surprised by how much less I'm leaking. Anyway, if you've ever wondered how to sanitize a menstrual disc, you're welcome. If you've never wondered, I'm sorry you had to find out. And yes, I washed the tongs Use code: Heatherakb for 15% off of you're looking for a sustainable way to manage your period Disc gifted by Saalt. Making a period kit for your centre or boats bathrooms is super simple! And really what you take onboard a boat to manage your period is exactly the same as on land, plus some nappy sacks and maybe some travel sickness tablets. Everything else is exactly the same. With a tiny bit of planning it's not as big a barrier as it might seem starting out in sailing. @mackiesofscotland don't sponsor me but they should! #sailing #periods #womeninsport

A few of my closest friends and I had the opportunity to visit @periodnirvana in Asheville, NC, and it left me feeling so inspired for the future of The Flow Access Project. 💗 Seeing how they make period education accessible, informative, and approachable reminded me just how important education is in breaking down the stigma surrounding menstruation. 🩸📚 One of my goals for The Flow Access Project is to continue growing the educational side of our work by sharing accurate, approachable resources that help people better understand their bodies, menstrual products, and period health. • • • I’m also forever grateful to friends who have helped and supported The Flow Access Project and its growth. 🫶🏻 Thank you, Period Nirvana. For the inspiration and what you do for the Asheville community! 🫶🏻 #theflowaccess #mutualaid #periodnirvana #periodpoverty #menstrualhealtheducation
