A friend told me a crazy story of a short film production where an AD threw a c-stand at the DP because they could not get a sunrise shot on time. During the times we live in, having the time, energy, and resources to create art is a privilege- a luxury even. One that should create and sustain community.

These are some BTS photos from the set of TRUE WEST, which should be out by the end of the month. My first time directing a production of this scale, and god is it addicting! Eternal thanks to the hard-working cast and crew that made it feel like I was just hanging out with a bunch of talented friends on a weekend.

This past year of production has been insane, I’ve had the privilege to help create on a LOT of phenomenal works.

From directing/producing my first “real” film (2k budget,) to producing a slew of phenomenal projects for phenomenal creators, to writing a dance show that’s redefining divine feminine history, to stage managing a whirlwind of a play, to running the box office (as listed on the callsheet) of the dang school wide festival as stage manager... It’s been a lot.
Then, the curse of 4/25 came. While, after the whole kerfuffle I am now safely negative (never found out if I actually had it, or it was a 1 in a million false positive,) and in my 5 day isolation period, I think it’s a good reminder that we need to all take a step back, breath, and let ourselves rest. Wether I had contracted covid or not in that surge at school, My body was giving OUT as soon as I let it. Working 16 hour days for two weeks is so incredibly fun and rewarding to see and create and learn, but you don’t realize how taxing it is until you’re plucked out of it.
Yes, to my fellow workacholic artists, we are phenomenal creators, but we are also humans, we’re living, breathing creatures. We are deserving of love, and happiness, 365 days of the year, and I ask of all of you today that you give some love to someone dear to you, because you never know when someone may need it! And if that someone is yourself, that’s wonderful too.

Today, I think I will spend time (virtually) with friends, plan for the future, and watch the sunset with my roommate. Perhaps, that standstill I was forced into, was a message for me to stop and stare at the world around me, before it passes me by.❤️
