What began as a simple game of pool became an afternoon filled with remembrance and community. 🎱✨

The first Matthew J. Darcy Memorial Pool Tournament held on campus over the weekend was a meaningful one. The special event was created to honor the life of Darcy, a beloved member of the Class of 2028 who passed away in November 2024. He was often found in the Jean Student Center, cue in hand, playing pool with friends and bringing laughter to the room. It felt only fitting to celebrate his memory in a space that held so many of those moments.

We were especially honored to be joined by Darcy's father, P.J., who shared heartfelt words with the students before the tournament began. Following the championship match, Darcy's roommate, Blake Brewer ’28, also spoke briefly, thanking everyone for coming together to support and remember his friend.

Congratulations to Michael Carter ’28 and Louie Spychalski (Providence College), who claimed the championship title out of 54 participants and 27 teams. Their names will be placed on a perpetual plaque displayed near the pool cue memorial, a lasting tribute to Darcy's memory and the community that continues to honor him.
