There’s a saying in filmmaking, the story is written four different times: first by the writer, again by the director, then breathe life into by the actors, and finally retold by the editor. That last version is the one the world actually sees.

An editor is the alchemist, the one who shapes the emotion and rhythm of the project. They are the guardians of feeling. They decide what lingers, what cuts deep, what breathes.

So today, I want to give the loudest congratulations to our editor, Sadé Askew, for being the alchemist for The Off-Brands to receive Outstanding Editing at the Micheaux Film Festival. Sadé, your contribution does not go unnoticed and you played a major part in the reason, this story landed the way it did (the announcements addition?? * chef kiss *).

Thank you for bringing this film to life and thank you to the entire team! This win is for Sadé, for us, for The Off-Brands and this win is so deeply deserved! 🎬✨

I got emotional putting this reel together. I read that family reunions have dropped by 47% since 1997, and that really hit me. I wanted to be a bridge in our family, so I decided to host a gathering and called it A Family Affair.

We haven’t truly been together like this since my brother passed away. This was just the beginning — next year will be a full family reunion, I promise. It’s time to bring us back together.

This isn’t everyone, but it’s a start. I’m truly grateful to have been able to do this. 💚 I didn’t know everyone IG.

Wow, a week has gone by already and I’m still on a high. En Route Fest was star-studded! The future of music in one room, celebrating real artistry. This is the biggest project I’ve ever spearheaded and it meant the world to have so much love in the room. The last year of working on this episode has been one of the hardest things I’ve had to do. Thank you @jailenjosey & @thetarynjanae for believing in my vision. Shoutout to the performers , who also just so happen to be my favorite R&B artists right now, @dasheanporter @kalenbree and headliner @layaface.
