Ferdinand’s Guide to Grief will screen Thursday Aug 13 at @mohistorymuseum with @stlchange and @mfaimadethis . We created this film woven in intention and a personal promise to honor the life and legacy of Michael Brown Jr, and with a goal of helping community members address and transform through our communal grief. This will only be the third time we’ve screened it publicly—it’s a vulnerable piece.

Creating this film saved my life. Attempting to create a “guide” to grief meant addressing my own and all of the shadows that came with it. Removing the facade of “I’m fine” and transforming (or accepting) oneself as how and who you really are. Crack oneself open to allow the light to pour in, essentially. This film is raw and every ounce of what you see is real. Art is less about the result and more about who you become in the process of creation. But the result of this was beautiful, and I’m grateful. And the people who interviewed and opened up their hearts to us (three of Michael Brown’s siblings, my uncle who lost his brother to police violence, my grandfather, and community members) thank you.

Join us for the screening then a conversation with Anissa McCaskill of @stlchange, Atif Mahr of Chosen Fathers and @aturah of Presence and Care.

Exciting to announce I am partnering with @sadiqbey_ for his upcoming show “A Child Who Mourns The Ghetto” an exhibition highlighting the collective experience of resilience and sorrow. Although they may seem opposite, they go hand and hand. To hear him talk about how inspired he has been to create this masterpiece is beautiful.

When he reached out to me about building 35 frames for his show, I’d never built a picture frame in my life, but I wasn’t afraid to learn.

Thru research and trial and error we completed 2 frames together. A very special experience. To bring visions to life and add value to his artwork that is timeless.

I wish for you to come out and experience this show November 23rd @ the Majorette AND ITS FREE! RSVP thru the link in @sadiqbey_ BIO! 🫂🤍
