POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
This pride was rough. I got pickpocketed, my therapist missed an appointment, relationships getting challenged, hard conversations, hard realizations, dealing with grief, all the things compounding all at once, GO! But this women right hereeeeee. My number 1. My business partner. My BEST friend. MY WIFE. THE MOTHER OF MY GOD SON. HELD ME UP. I definitely would not have made it thru without her, the struggle was too real. A post does not even do our 10 YEARS of friendship justice so imma just leave this Pride 2025 picture of us, looking like shea butta chocolate drops and stylin’ as per usual and celebrate our sisterhood IRL. Love you my hippy queen.

ME

This was by far the hardest thing I have ever done in my life… In 2018, I presented my first ever collection under another brand name. We then split in 2020 due to creative differences… Immediately after that, I started working for a local designer. I couldn’t believe he responded to my email, not to mention offered me a job! Then, he ghosted me… this crushed me. Hit after hit, I started to question my value not only as a creative being, but as a person. Was I not talented enough? Do people not like my personality? Maybe I’m too Asian?

I then leaned into a retail career as a Visual Manager until April 2023. My contract had ended and the store was closing down regardless… I thought “I’ve always wanted to try committing to my brand. Why not now? Let’s put my all into it and see what happens.” Setting a clear boundary with myself, that if it didn’t work out this time. I would commit to finding a regular 9-5 salary job. So, that is exactly what I did. I went on unemployment and scrapped together whatever I could to make sure I had the basics covered. Whatever was left, went into buying fabric, paying seamstresses, and renting the venue. It was scary, I was so close to my dream of finally doing my own runway show. Capitalism was (is) the only thing getting in the way…

An Asian student who wants to get into fashion came up to me the other day and said “You are my inspiration”. I almost started crying, all I want to do with my art is inspire people to rethink who they are, how they feel in their skin, and how they can do the same for others. I am very lucky, because even though I never felt at home with my biological family. I have found that in my chosen family. I have never felt more loved, more seen, more appreciated in my life. The same student asked me “Do you think fashion is worth it?”. I responded with “It depends on how badly you want it. I am willing to be homeless to be a fashion designer… the industry here in Toronto is hard. There is a lot of ego and gatekeeping. But, I am trying to change that. I want to create a space where both passion and compassion can coexist.”

Stacked 3 Layer Hoodie Dress

Now this look… has gotten a lot of attention already. Inspired by the feeling of depression and how it makes you want to curl up in bed wearing your favourite hoodies. It started with a feeling. Throughout my life, I have struggled with my mental health in a variety of ways; depression, anxiety, ADHD, and Autism (awaiting official diagnosis). For me, fashion design is all about feeling. When I am designing, I would be lying if I didn’t say I lost a little piece of myself in each piece. This is why I don’t do costume design. I want the item you wear to be a collaboration, my vision and life experiences projected onto you with your individual life experiences. This look is 3 hoodies (yes, yes, another tie back to my THE ICONS: THE HOODIE). A sleeveless hoodie dress, once again double-faced and stacked. When wearing it, it feels like a warm hug. A sleeveless zip-up hoodie, leaning into my more punk radical look. Topped with a stacked sleeve, cropped zip-up hoodie. Heavy on the arms, representing the weight often felt in low points in your life.

Stacked Ribbed Tank Dress
Handmade in Toronto using locally sourced materials

Inspired by what I would describe as the best-fitting tank top, this is the best-fitting tank dress. While designing it, the plan was to make my version of the LBD “Little Black Dress”. If you don’t know, postwar @dior started making the idea of the LBD. It was supposed to be the perfect black dress for the well-dressed woman. Since then, every brand has its version of what this looks like. Here’s mine. Living in our Western society, loungewear is a huge part of how we dress. Tank tops and hoodies are staples in our everyday wardrobe. I used to hate tank tops, maybe that was more about how I felt about myself at the time. I used to think It exposed too much. But then, this past summer changed everything. My chosen family brought me out to the beach, they showed me what it was like to be surrounded by queers at Hanlan’s. They showed me how to love the body I am in… naturally, this turned into a love for tank tops and the feeling of freedom they provide. I wanted to make something that took the simplicity of a tank top and turned it into a gown. Something fit for the runway, or you know… walking around the resort with your partner.
