The body is a home; one that shifts and grows and needs tending to with gentle hands and gentle heart. We must navigate its construction and throughout our lives re-learn our relationship to its ever changing nature. The body is a home that you carry with you, and that in turn carries you, it is yours; but it is also a home that is often asked to contort itself into shapes that satisfy the outside world. Saèl entered the space with a kind of patient ritual that grew in intensity each thread weaving a tapestry of frustration, questioning, and coming to terms. Curling, warping, twisting, bracing, moulding, protecting, holding tension and releasing it, their body folded inward before it extended outward and once again claimed space in a calm and controlled manner. It was moving to witness the resolution, to feel somehow a part of the catharsis. Saèl ended where they began; a kind of returning, a revealing of the cyclical nature of being. My edits are blue in hue, because to me, this colour represents both melancholy, isolation, and simultaneously, a serene calm. It’s the hue of storm clouds but also of sure and gentle tides that always return to shore. Had such a fun evening discovering an intimate dance gig with Sofar Sounds (@sofarsounds) last night (which I only found out about because the brilliant Seirian Griffiths was performing, and obviously I wasn’t going to miss the chance to see him improvise!). It brought together five artists from the UK, France and the Netherlands, all in a cute little photography gallery at the FUJIFILM House of Photography. Such a cool concept! It started with threading. I’d seen videos of the dance form but hadn’t ever seen it live (and loved it!). It’s all about bodies constantly figuring out how to weave around and through each other (or around and through themselves in a solo piece), connecting, interlocking and untangling themselves. The nerd in me used to love mathematical problem-solving, and threading feels just like that to me, but through physical movement. It’s fascinating to watch! We saw a stunning threading duet by Justin De Jager and Tom Donkersloot and a beautiful, powerful solo from Sael Heesemans (who even taught me, or at least tried to teach me, some moves!). Next was Seirian, who improvised a dance theatre piece in his signature gravity mechanics style around two words he’d thought of beforehand: boundary and threshold. I was so fascinated by his explanation of how the idea of boundaries came to him from thinking about performing so close to an audience, without the usual fourth wall, and questioning where exactly that boundary lies. Andrea Bou Othmane then closed the evening with a relentless, high-energy contemporary piece. The star here was the idea behind Sofar Sounds. I loved the concept of bringing together different artists and movement styles in such a casual, intimate space, with the chance to chat to the performers afterwards. It’s a lovely way to discover dance you might not otherwise come across, and I really hope more people check it out (they’re back with another show on Dec 4, so check it out!)

Dear People! You may have seen some things popping up… This summer we have been working on our first short film ever!💛 ***************************** This short film is an ode to friendships that are embedded in the wrinkels and pits — from our skin to our blood. Glimpses of recognition to a fantasy, a dream of unconditional connection. Amidst a frenetic existence, Muk and Saèl shed their masks in order to truly see one another. Sometimes fighting with blows and shoves, at other times soaking freely in the water. But mainly moving at speed, trusting in fate. The fleeting nature of the stage offers an experience; the permanence of film holds a promise. Here, the boundaries of visual reality can be explored—through a close-up, a zoom-in, or a moment of stillness where nothing in this constructed reality goes unseen. *************************************** Let us know if you want to keep up with this project! Please leave your email in our dm’s!🍓 And keep an eye on our socials!!
