We’re thrilled to share the colorful and exciting book cover to Crack Goes the Cascarón: An Eggcellent Not-Just-For-Easter Shellabration! A new picture book written by Sara Andrea Fajardo with art by Rocio Arreola Mendoza. This spirited picture book will be released February 18, 2025, from @knopfkids! Simultaneously releasing in Spanish as La explosion del cascarón: ¡Un tremendo reventón para cualquier ocasión! Here’s the scoop on Crack Goes the Cascarón: Shellabrate a joyous Latine tradition, with Toti and his family in this upbeat story, hatched in time for Easter and other springtime festivities. What are cascarones? Cascarones are empty eggshells that have been decorated, filled with paper confetti and the like, then sealed back up. The fun is in cracking a cascaron on someone else’s cabeza (head)! Who will be the reigning cascarones champ in this eggciting story? Toti knows that he has his family beat. His parents are too easy; they make old-school cascarones with confetti inside. His sister Carlita wishes she could create cascarones like his, and Abuela doesn’t even stand a chance—no way! When it’s time to crack the cascarones, will Toti reign supreme or will the day be scrambled when he learns somebody has switched his awesome cascarones for fake ones! Readers will laugh at the antics of Toti and his family and enjoy a cheeky twist at the end. Congratulations to our Musa @safajarwrites and her team! 🎉

Throw back to last week at the National Association of Hispanic Journalists national convention in Hollywood. It was so great to reconnect with old friends and make new ones, while introducing Zillow data scientists as a resource to navigate the complex housing market. @officialnahj

I finished a book on Thursday! I shipped a book’s art on Thursday. I sorted and boxed all the sketches, notes, printouts and materials for that book on Thursday. Friday, when I walked in the studio, the space felt odd… something was missing. 🥔 After taking way longer than I planned because I had to rethink the way I was making the illustrations, the artwork for PAKA PAKA CON LA PAPÁ is completed. Today it is somewhere in the Roaring Brook Press/Macmillan building waiting for next steps. The art’s journey that will make it available to anyone that wants to pick up a copy of the book. I hope you are one of those people that do. 🥔 While I was working on this picture book, its title changed and morphed a few times. I think it is now ALBERTO SALAS PLAYS PAKA PAKA CON LA PAPA, that will be simultaneously released in Spanish as ALBERTO SALAS JUEGA PAKA PAKA CON LA PAPA. So… it is still PAKA PAKA CON LA PAPA regardless of the edition. I love that! One more thing I love about the title? Paka Paka is the Quechua word for Hide and Seek. Ah! What a lovely way to include the childlike wonder and roots of Alberto Salas in the name of the book. 🥔 The book will be out in 2025. I’ll make sure to post again as the book continues its journey to publication, and as I figure out the pub date. In the meantime, I just wanted to share with you the milestone of getting the art mailed. 🥔 Today I’ll be painting pieces for another ALMA board book while listening to the screaming rain. Boy, it’s raining a lot! I hope today is a good day for you! #pakapakaconlapapa #juanamartinezneal #almaswords #childrensbookillustration
