POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Probably one of my favorite projects from last year was making this jacket featuring @safiuchi’s amazing artwork. @safiuchi is a Tlingit multimedia artist, architectural designer, and podcaster. She works with mixed media, including expressive charcoal on raw canvas, acrylics, printmaking, collagraphs, murals, and refractive photography. The “i” serves as a visual anchor for a journey that has navigated site demolition, chaos, and the raw labor of healing: breaking down what no longer holds, and rebuilding from what’s true. Moving between expressive charcoal on raw canvas and conceptual, refractive photography, Safiuchi invites you to look beyond the symmetry of the surface. Thank you for trusting me with this 💐💐💐 #artjacket #badassartist Also #happyindigenouspeoplesday 🌹🌹🌹

Journal Entry 04.22.26 One can choose to make a decision fully aware it may wound someone they hold close. It does not happen impulsively, despite how it appears from the outside. The person understands the consequence of bringing pain, and proceeds anyway. This is not always cruelty. More often, it is hierarchy. Human behavior follows an internal ranking system: desire, fear, identity, control. In moments like these, the person is not choosing to hurt someone, they are choosing a stronger lure. It may be the preservation of self-image, the avoidance of discomfort, the pursuit of validation, or the refusal to feel confined. The harm caused is not the objective, but it is an accepted cost. There is also a psychological distancing that occurs. The mind softens the impact in advance. “they’ll be okay”, “it’s not the worst thing”, “I deserve this”. This is not ignorance. It is negotiation. A rewriting of reality so the action can coexist with the belief that they are still a good person. And then there is the deeper layer: familiarity. Some people are more comfortable in patterns where connection and harm coexist. But they don’t lack care, it just has never existed for them without instability. To them, hurting someone does not feel like the end of connection. So the decision is made. The decision isn’t a lack of awareness. But out of alignment with something stronger than empathy in that moment. And that is the part people who are forced in the crossfire of being betrayed struggle to accept; that someone can care, and still choose themselves in a way that can shatter your sense of trust and reality.

EXHIBITION OPENING: iWRITE THE FUTURE “The pen has returned to the hand that knows the truth.” For a long time, we are told who we are by the world around us. But there comes a point where the “i”-the humble, honest self-must decide to write a better future. WRITE THE FUTURE is about that transition from observation to authorship. It is the realization that you are the only one qualified to finish your story. Using bold charcoal and intentional mark-making, Safiuchi explores the healing power of ownership. This show is an invitation to put down the “Archives” and start a new page. The process is the proof: every stroke is a choice, every layer is a lesson, and every chapter is written with intention. Own the narrative. Write the future. Join us for iWRITE THE FUTURE: 📍 GEHEIM GALLERY | 1228 Bay St, Bellingham, WA 98225 🗓 Friday, March 6th 🕔 5-9PM flyer designed by: @bradley_c_taylor #iWRITE #TheFutureIsYour #SAFIUCHI #Bellinghamartwalk #Geheimgallery

Seattle, what a weekend. First Thursday in Pioneer Square reminded us what this neighborhood does best: turn sidewalks into gathering places and galleries into community. And then the city carried that same “home team” energy into a Seahawks Super Bowl win.   Thank you for coming through i LiVE: An Evening with @safiuchi & the Homies and making @hometeam_gallery the place to be. This night was about more than a show. It was Safi translating her inner world into physical space, and all of us choosing to sit with it together. Huge gratitude to @hometeam_gallery for hosting, and to @ffttnw for collaborating with us to make Pioneer Square feel even more alive.  And special thanks to @famousisbae for the soundtrack that held the whole thing down. From us at Gallery Together: we’re grateful for every person who showed up, brought a friend, and helped make this happen.  We’ll be back in Pioneer Square on March 5 for First Thursday. Stay tuned—exciting updates coming soon. 📸: @procrastinagraphy and @badbritbrit

Safiuchi is a Seattle-based abstract expressionist whose work explores identity, memory, and healing through layered brushwork, bold color, and intuitive mark-making. She is a member of Shxwhá:y Village in Chilliwack, BC, and is Tlingit & Haida. Her practice is rooted in lived experience, using painting as a way to process personal history while opening space for broader conversations around humanity and multicultural communities. A recurring element in her work is the lowercase “i”—a symbol of the self before performance, humility over ego, and the inner truth behind her mantra, i live. Working across paint, charcoal, and mixed media, Safiuchi often reveals subtle figures and faces beneath the surface, inviting viewers to slow down and look closer. She also hosts Beyond the Canvas, a conversation series that amplifies artists and creatives through dialogue on culture, process, and personal truth. Join us for i LiVE: An Evening with Safiuchi & the Homies, where Safi brings her “i LiVE” philosophy into motion through a live painting performance. Her performance will unfold alongside pieces by Cristina Martinez, Chloe King, Japhy Witte, and Devin Liston, with DJ Famous (@famousisbae ) setting the soundtrack for the night. We’re back - and we’re returning with intention. i LiVE. In architecture, a structure is only as strong as its foundation. In this show, that foundation is the lowercase “i”, often overlooked, but intentional: a symbol of the self before performance, the quiet inner truth that doesn’t need to be bigger to be real. At the center of the evening is @safiuchi , whose live painting brings this philosophy into motion. Working with charcoal and layered marks, her piece unfolds in real time to a curated soundtrack: revealing her process from first stroke to final form. The performance is held in space alongside works by Cristina Martinez, Chloe King, Japhy Witte, and Devin Liston, a FFTT curated collective exploring identity, memory, vulnerability, and imagination through distinct visual languages. Sound sets the tone for the night with DJ Famous (@famousisbae ), creating a space that’s personal yet communal. HATCHET 01.08.26, 5-9PM L3 - RAILSPUR STUDIOS This exhibition explores texture, pattern and material itself as both structure and subject. Made with fiber, metal, wood, ceramics, and paint, these works have been cut, sewn, torn, punctured, dyed, carved, sheared, scraped, fired, and forged to reveal their final form. Together, the works in ‘Hatchet’ reveal a raw softness that breaks away from the rigidity of the rectangle, building up and paring down materials through repetition of force.
