As a dermatologist it’s important to be aware that many supplements and over the counter products can cause skin conditions or reactions.

YOU won’t fall for any of these myths because you have seen it with your own eyes 👀

I want us to emphasize that retinoids don’t just thicken the dermis, they youthfully thicken the epidermis as well.

The granular layer (deep purple) is thicker in retinoid treated skin as you are increasing NATURAL moisturization factors.

Retinoids don’t just help produce more collagen, they trigger a complete remodeling of your dermis. More anchoring fibrils = stronger skin. Removing old or damaged collagen and restoring the order to the dermis.

Don’t overthink your retinoid. Find one you can use, use it consistently long term and reap the rewards 🙌🏻

Hair loss is complex and there are many conditions you didn’t know exist.

All hair loss visits start with in-personal evaluation of the entire scalp with dermoscopy. Based on this exam, we may order labs or perform additional tests to ensure we get the correct diagnosis.

Acne isn’t caused by just one thing, it develops from multiple processes happening at the same time:

Under the microscope, you can see:
• A clogged hair follicle (comedo)
• Excess oil (sebum)
• C. acnes bacteria trapped
• Inflammation from your immune system
• Sometimes, rupture of the follicle that can lead to scarring
—
Different treatments target different steps:
• Retinoids → prevent clogged pores, reduce inflammation, prevent skin cells from “sticking”
• Benzoyl peroxide → reduce C. acnes (also exfoliative)
• Antibiotics → decrease inflammation
• Hormonal treatments → reduce oil production
• Isotretinoin → targets every step in acne formation
