The moment i laid my eyes on the title, and read the blurb of the book, I knew i had to give it a try because it marked every single box on my checklist from what i want in a book;
• enemies-to-lovers setup,
• forbidden romance,
• prophecy, powers and, obviously,
• someone like Abhimanyu Rathore 🤌🏻✨️

Though somewhere along the way, Kriya Mukherjee became the reason I stayed. She is smart, stubborn, messy, compassionate, loud, and completely herself, a protagonist that feels real and relatable and not outright molded to be the heroine that feels out of reach. I especially loved seeing her relationships with her friends and family because they gave her character more depth beyond being the powerful FMC.

The world-building is definitely my favourite part of the book. The whole concept of Hearts and Minds, the Trials, the kingdom and the politics surrounding the throne felt thoughtfully constructed, and there was always another layer waiting to be uncovered. It reminded me of peeling an onion just when you think you understand the world, another layer appears. Some of the revelations did leave me with more questions than answers, but that also kept me invested.

The writing style is deeply unique. It is clear, uncomplicated and flows naturally, which worked particularly well during the action and fighting sequences. I could actually picture what was happening without the descriptions becoming overwhelming. The pacing was strong too, although a few parts could have been tighter.

And then there is Abhimanyu, cocky, intelligent, powerful and surprisingly domestic which made the slow-burn romance even more fun. Their chemistry, yearning and gradual trust were some of my favourite elements.

The final portion of the book was where everything really came together for me. The betrayals, revelations and twists kept coming, and several of them had me awestruck.

A promising Indian romantasy debut with an intriguing world, a strong FMC, slow-burn romance and enough unanswered questions to make me curious about what's next.

This was literally my reaction while reading the book and when I got to the last 30% of the book. I couldn't be more grateful that I got a chance to read this book and it made a massive impact on my reading year because A Change of Heart by Sahana Rele became my favourite book of this year.

I chose the book because of enemies to lovers, Abhimanyu Rathore, forbidden romance, prophecy and powers, but I stayed for Kriya Mukherjee. I love her character, she is smart, loud, messy, sugar addict, compassionate, strong and a loving. Abhimanyu Rathore is devastatingly handsome, most powerful mind, smart, knows cooking, and dangerously lethal prince.

I loved the writing, it was refreshing, clear and so easy to flow with. The book was well paced and kept me hooked from the first chapter to the last word of the book. I loved the action scenes, and fighting scenes especially because of how easy it was to imagine those scenes because of simplicity in writing.

My favourite part of the book was relationships and love between characters. Kriya's relationship with her friends , family, and other characters has been so lovely.

The plot was the most exciting thing, it kept me engaged till the end and especially the last 30% of the book had me obsessed and invested. It has everything I love from yearning to slow-burn, from trust to betrayal, from angst to love, and a powerful FMC.

The book gave me vibes of Powerless by Lauren Roberts but desi version. And I was all sat for it.

Overall, I loved this book wholeheartedly and I would definitely recommend it if you enjoy Indian fantasy books with magic, prophecy, powerful FMC, betrayal, love, plot twists, angst, yearning, slow burn, banter, forbidden love and of course enemies to lovers.
