A little reintroduction here:

It has been awhile since I last did this, so…
I’m Daniel. I live in Lakewood, Colorado with my wife Zilu and our five kids. I have a studio at our home and I am grateful to be working as an artist and educator while also raising our children and spending lots of time with them.
.
I studied painting at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago for undergrad and have been working and showing here in the Denver area since 2016.
.
My work has been continuing to develop and change over the past few years and I am excited to be showing some very new things next month with @altogallery .
.
Here are some of my favorite things:
Authors: Dostoevsky, David Foster Wallace, Cormac McCarthy, Haruki Murakami, Flannery O’Connor.
Painters: Andrew Wyeth, Peter Doig, Nigel Cooke, Neo Rauch, Bonnard, Vuillard, Lois Dodd, Felix Vallotton.
Directors: Paul Thomas Anderson, Andrei Tarkovsky, Ingmar Bergman, Wes Anderson.
.
Music: Sufjan Stevens, Arcade Fire, Vampire Weekend, Joshua Burnside
.
Visited the Curtis Center yesterday so my family could see the current show which features three of my paintings. My mom took this photo of me with my family. My two oldest kids both submitted entries for the Best in Show, People’s Choice Award… neither of them chose one of my pieces. 😂… I still love them.
.
Thanks for following my work, for reaching out, for sharing ideas and artists with me. A special thanks to all my collectors. I lm glad to be able to share my work and my process with you all. :)

When dust settles

.
“I grew up on a family farm in western Nigeria, tending banana plants, and watching their cycles of growth, harvest, and decay. Each plant prepares for its own death as it produces new stems to continue its lineage. These early encounters with ephemerality and renewal formed the foundation of my understanding of transformation how life, death, and regeneration continuously fold into one another. This sensibility now shapes my practice, where gestural marks accumulate across the surface, revealing and obscuring the blurred boundaries between plant, body, and metamorphosis.

My paintings serve as sites where human, botanical, and imagined forms merge into hybrid beings. Sinewy brushwork and root-like structures echo tissues, veins, and organic patterns, dissolving the divide between animate and inanimate, self and environment. Informed by posthumanist thought and the realities of the Anthropocene, the work holds both violence and tenderness, mirroring natural processes of blooming, decomposition, and flux. Limbs, organs, and faces appear and dissolve, inviting projection and emotional resonance.

Ultimately, my work visualizes the profound interconnectedness and tension between nature and human life.”

“Beneath Her Light” ✨

There is something truly special about seeing a bespoke artwork come to life in the exact space it was created for.

Painted in oil and adorned with gold leaf, this 18 x 32 inch piece was inspired by his mother’s favorite animal, the giraffe. The composition brings together elegance, tenderness, and light, transforming a personal detail into an artwork that feels timeless and deeply meaningful.

Designed to complement the room’s refined palette, golden accents, and soft natural light, every element was considered so the piece would feel completely at home within its surroundings.

Custom art should do more than decorate a wall. It should hold a story, elevate the atmosphere, and give a space a sense of identity. The result is a piece that does not simply belong in the room. It completes it. 🖤✨
