What does it look like to arrive at college one person and leave another — not because of a great class or experience, but because of friendships honest enough to tell you the truth about yourself?

When Saige arrived at VCU, she didn’t realize that there’s a difference between being an open book and truly letting people in.

A new friend invited her to a Chi Alpha small group in the middle of her freshman year, and she walked into a room that could hold her whole self. What followed was the slow, uncomfortable, and beautiful work of God transforming her into someone she hadn’t known she could be.

As I reflect on the end of this year, a word that I would pick would be gratitude. The Lord moved in so many ways this year through my small group, my Chi Alpha community and each and every one of my friends that encouraged me when I felt down about myself or even to do things that I would’ve thought I wouldn’t have done in the past. This year was so special but God is not done working! Small group leadership is laying your life down so that others can believe, see and experience the glory of God.

“We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us. So we also ought to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters.” 1 John 3:16
