This book is a comprehensive visual record of 𝗩𝗶𝗲𝘁 𝗡𝗮𝗺’𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲: its history, how it took shape, and how it became woven into our daily life.

Through Alexandre Garel’s expressive photography, you will see how Vietnamese architects adapted modernism to the tropical climate and, in doing so, created something far richer than the minimalism found elsewhere. Their compositional techniques: brise‑soleil screens, double walls, deep overhangs, and bold abstract forms… proved not only functional but also intricately decorative.

The book is both a tribute to this architectural legacy and a useful reference for architects, designers, and anyone interested in modernist architecture in Viet Nam.

Once upon a time...Street photography in Saigon, 2012.

A Saigon that was already fading.
Streets before they disappeared, houses before they were erased, moments of ordinary life caught just before everything changed.

The city was moving fastbut time still seemed to linger in gestures, faces, silences. Today, much of this Saigon is gone -only these images remain, as fragile memories of what once was.

Wishing you all a gentle and beautiful weekend.

Saigon, 2012

📸 𝙎𝘼𝙄𝙂𝙊𝙉 – 𝘼 𝘿𝙀𝘾𝘼𝘿𝙀 𝙏𝙃𝙍𝙊𝙐𝙂𝙃 𝙏𝙃𝙀 𝙇𝙀𝙉𝙎

“𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙗𝙤𝙤𝙠 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙢𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙯𝙚𝙨 𝙎𝙖𝙞𝙜𝙤𝙣 𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧.”

When French photographer Garel Alexandre @saigonsnaps first arrived in Saigon in 2011, it was meant to be a short trip. But fate had its own plan — and so began a love story that would last over a decade.

With an eye that sees beauty in the everyday and a soul drawn to the rhythm of the streets, Garel spent 9 years wandering through the hẻm, alleyways, and bustling corners of a city constantly in motion. His passion for visual storytelling transformed into a mission: to capture the soul of Saigon before it slips into memory.

🖼️ The result is a breathtaking photobook:
✨ 280 pages of black-and-white images
✨ Over 100 years of urban history
✨ A journey through architecture, daily life, and hidden corners most people walk past

𝘌𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘧𝘳𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘢 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘭𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘰 𝘚𝘢𝘪𝘨𝘰𝘯 — 𝘩𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘵, 𝘶𝘯𝘧𝘪𝘭𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘥, 𝘥𝘦𝘦𝘱𝘭𝘺 𝘩𝘶𝘮𝘢𝘯.

At 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗢𝗱𝘆𝘀 𝗕𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲 𝗛𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗹, we believe in the power of stories — and the importance of preserving culture through art. That’s why we proudly display this meaningful photobook in our lobby, not just as decoration, but as an invitation: for every guest to pause, explore, and fall in love with the city through the eyes of someone who once did — and never looked back.

📍Come discover the story of Saigon — now on display (and available for purchase) at The Odys Lobby.
