My eldest sister & I, 1963, 2022. She is where I get my sense of wonder from. She is a bold, adventurous, loving individual and there is no one quite like her.

It feels like time cracked the seal. My imagined seal that kept my siblings safe, here on earth with me. My eldest brother Fernando passed away. This pain I feel is different than when I lost my mother. Some how life with my siblings feels so much more vulnerable. I have always refer to us as, The Six of Us, and always will.

It’s my Saints Day! Felicidades to all the Guadalupe’s out there. December is a month that my moms presence is felt a little stronger. It’s her birthday month and it’s my Saints Day. I’m named after the Virgen De Guadalupe. My connection to my name started long before I was born. To me it represents hope, faith and the strength of a mother’s love. My mom was 43, in a broken marriage, had 5 kids, ages 8 to 17, lived in South Los Angeles, the heart of lots of racial tension at the time and found herself pregnant with me.
She was a worrier it was part of her DNA, but she also had a deep faith that allowed her to be a warrior and move forward even in times of great doubt.
When she was pregnant with me she prayed to the Virgen De Guadalupe asking that she watch over this baby she was carrying and she promised to name the baby Guadalupe.
The GuadSquad has some deep roots, going back to my mothers love. I try my best to bring her love and strength forward in my words and deeds.
