$xmas 1 week (sandwich mix) is a playful yet deliberate EP from Evian Bottled Water and Saint Taint, featuring three reworked versions of Evian Bottled Water’s 2024 song “Christmas is in One Week,” originally released on December 18, 2024—exactly one week before Christmas. That sense of urgency defines the project. Two of the three tracks were created in roughly 12 minutes, the time it takes to make a more elevated sandwich, establishing speed and constraint as key creative forces rather than limitations. The EP is structured around a sandwich metaphor, with the central “filling” acting as its most challenging and experimental moment. This is not a simple peanut butter and jelly: the filling is represented by peanut butter, honey, and Sichuan peppercorn, a combination that is sweet, intense, and numbing. Sonically, this track pushes hardest against expectations of Christmas music, using fractured rhythms, dense textures, and deliberate discomfort to expand the genre’s boundaries—mirroring the risk of unconventional sandwich-making. The opening track functions as the first slice of bread, immediately recognizable but destabilized. Saint Taint’s ethereal, glitch-heavy production evokes the frantic lead-up to Christmas, while Evian Bottled Water’s abstract vocal presence adds emotional ambiguity. The track feels anxious and restless, capturing the countdown energy of the original song without leaning on nostalgia. The final track acts as the closing slice of bread, slowing the pace and allowing the melody to breathe. Lush, melancholic synths offer a moment of reflection after the intensity of the filling, providing resolution without returning fully to comfort. Together, the three tracks form a fast, strange, and intentional construction. xmas 1 week (sandwich mix) embraces spontaneity while placing its boldest ideas at the center, resulting in a holiday EP that is experimental, self-aware, and unexpectedly memorable.$
