I’m sick of people saying zenbarn is for hippies - already looking forward to the next songwriters circle!

An excellent meal - as always - at @fancys_btv … even if some people insisted on chocolate cake for dessert.

Thanks to @sallypollak @jebphoto and @sevendaysvt for a thoughtful and well researched article! Sally really captured the community barn-raising that has made Madbush Falls possible. It’s impossible for one article to do justice to everyone on the job, so let’s take a moment to shout out the masterminds behind the physical space being created: @silasclarkvt @ironwooddesign and @zealuna link to the article in bio.

This week in @sevendaysvt…

The Road to 'Riddleville,' Burlington Sculptor Clark Russell’s Work of a Lifetime
By 7D Staff Writer @sallypollak

Clark Russell was a student at the University of Vermont when he formed a punk rock band called No Fun with guitarist and fellow student Bill Mullins.

"I got myself a microphone and decided I wanted to be a singer," Russell, now 61, recalled. No Fun practiced in the trash room at dormitory Christie Hall, playing for a "stumble-in crowd" that followed the noise to the garbage. Pieces of refuse, such as words printed on a cereal box, became impromptu song lyrics. "We ruled over that trash room for a good year," Russell said. "We had Friday night gigs there and cut our teeth."

Four decades later, Russell is still making art, using trash for material. Although he performs occasionally with a band, Russell is known primarily as a visual artist. An exhibition of his work, "Riddleville," opened October 7 at the Flynn's Amy E. Tarrant Gallery. It's Russell's first solo exhibition in Burlington in 10 years. [excerpt]

Check out the full article in print or at 7DVT.com and def go check out the installation at the @flynncenter’s Tarrant Gallery on Main St. in downtown Burlington. It’s an incredible body of work. Cheers to you, Clark.

This week, on the cover of @sevendaysvt:

“Now He’s Cooking”
Fourteen Years Sober, Chef Frank Pace Juggles Two Busy Burlington Eateries
By #7DVT Staff Writer @sallypollak

I had a great time hanging and shooting with Chef Frank Pace Jr. for this cover story, as well as with his staff and family. We met up at both of his locations, @augustfirstvt on Main St and The Great Northern, now part of the @zerogravitybeerhall on Pine St., both in Burlington, and I quickly got a sense of how he captain’s these multiple ships - with a clear intention and a contagious cheerfulness, made to look easy by a lifetime of experience. There is an obvious expediency in his step and it resonated with me, a true believer that there are never enough hours in the day to do it all but try anyway. I guess you could say I dig his pace. (And… this is why I’m not the writer)

"It's a little bit like great music," he said of the sculpture. "It's able to draw you in, [and] there's always more to see. But you can get the idea of the melody immediately."
Rich Arentzen.
