Believe it or not, these drawings are over 40years old. Yes, I know, I am just a tiny bit older than most of you 🤭… Found them in a giant map up in my attic together with some long lost treasures and fun memories. I look at it as the plus outcome of changing the roof completely 😅. They were originally for a school assignment about “contrasts’. The Royal Academy of Art is located in an older neighbourhood of Antwerp, back then with lots of poor, elderly people. Every Monday morning, as I came walking down the street, with this giant map folded under my arm, I saw them collecting free leftover bread at the chapel. Was it their only meal for the remaining week, I often wondered. It shocked me, more even so, cause the rest of the week they were completely invisible… I wanted to illustrate that shocking feeling. Up until this day, whenever I think of my days as an art student, this is one of the first memories that pops up in my mind.
