Jesus is worthy of our praise on and off stage.

Something our team does together before we serve, every time, is kneel and pray. We do this for a few reasons:

1. Psalm 95:6 - “Come, let’s worship and bow down; let’s kneel before the Lord our Maker.

If the Biblical authors found themselves kneeling in reverence when worshipping God, why shouldn’t we?

2. James 4:6 - “Therefore it says, ‘God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.’”

Though leading music is a service to the church, being on stages with lights and mics can cause our attention to shift inward. We are not immune to insecurity or vanity. Kneeling helps us literally humble ourselves before we step up on stage.

3. Matthew 6:6 - “But when you pray, go into your private room, shut your door, and pray to your Father who is in secret.”

This verse is about prayer, but the idea can apply to worship. If we only got on our knees in front of people, what does that say about our private worship to God?

Jesus is worthy of our praise on and off stage.

Coming back to campus, I’ve been asked several times what my highlight was during the fall retreat weekend and I kept saying, “All of it.” I posted earlier, showing a few snippets of the weekend I could get in pictures, but in actuality, my favorite moment was captured right here.

Sunday morning, I got up early enough to see the sunrise over the lake and spend one-on-one time with God. Truthfully, I poured my heart out to God as I praised Him for how He moved over the weekend and reminded me of His merciful love. I prayed for Him to finish the weekend strong and let this fire spread into our everyday lives as His Spirit fills us. It was me, God and the fish in the water before me. It was time to slow down and take in His beautiful creation while remembering every aspect of what this weekend brought us.

I reflected on the three sermons, three worship sessions, community times, camp games, and everything in between. Who am I? I am beautiful in God and broken in sin. The God of the universe is my Father, and I am His child. I am the blood bought bride of Jesus Christ.

I continued in my time with God by reading His word, when a familiar voice came from behind me: “May I join you?” My best friend sat with me for the last (and best part) of the sunrise. Finishing my alone time with God, I spent my morning with one of the greatest blessings He has ever given me, Liv. We sat in silence, read, prayed, and talked—it was amazing.

And then the fourth and final session closed our retreat with the reminder that “I am alive because the Spirit of God is in me, and that gives me hope for my life today and my life in eternity.”

All Glory be to Christ.

I am beyond grateful for what this fall retreat has reminded me of and showed me. Thank you Jesus.
