Since AD 122 there has always been a bridge over the Tyne. The bridges connect us and bind us together even when we feel divided.

Lead me home, to the North
To a land that I call mine
Where seven bridges’ arms stretch
The waters of the Tyne

We’re incredibly proud to finally release the trailer for Beck’s End, our upcoming limited series.

When floodwaters swallow an idyllic Lake District village, a stranded journalist finds herself trapped in a rising tide of fear. Cut off from the outside world, she begins to uncover horrors both human and biblical, lurking beneath the surface.

Beck’s End is a folk horror audio drama about isolation, belief, radicalisation and whether redemption is possible.

Join us at becksend.com and sign-up ahead of launch.

Today at The Late Shows 🌉

Seven Bridges is an interactive sound installation by SALT, commissioned by Creative Central NCL and inspired by the seven bridges across the Tyne at Newcastle and Gateshead.

Each bridge unlocks a different layer of music, from drums and percussion to strings, guitars, brass, choir and keys.

Step onto the pads with someone else and you’ll unlock new music. To hear the full piece, 14 people need to take part together.

Seven Bridges at Discovery Museum
Today, Saturday 9 May
From 6pm to 10.30pm

@sevenbridgestyne is created by @saltrecording in collaboration with local musicians, artists, singers and technicians. Plus bridge artwork by @marcia.ley

Creative Central NCL funds artists and creatives thanks to funding from @northeast_ca and @newcastlecouncil

During the installation the Millennium Bridge unlocks Keys

Opened in 2002 and designed by WilkinsonEyre with Gifford, the Millennium Bridge introduced a new way of crossing the Tyne. it’s tilting structure allows the whole bridge to rotate to let ships pass, rather than opening in separate parts. This simple but distinctive movement quickly made it one of the most recognisable crossings in the region

Seven Bridges by SALT comes to Discovery Museum for The Late Shows.

Inspired by the seven bridges across the Tyne, Seven Bridges is an interactive sound installation where you have to work together to unlock layers of music.

Nobody can do it alone. Step onto the pads with someone else and new sounds are added, gradually building the composition through shared action. To hear the full piece 14 people need to take part together.

The piece began with a song written by Paul Worthington (half of SALT) seven years ago while working away from home, and has grown into a collaborative installation involving musicians, singers, artists and technicians all with a connection to the North East.

During the installation the Tyne Bridge unlocks the choir

Opened in 1928 and designed by Mott, Hay and Anderson. The Tyne Bridge became the defining arch of Newcastle & Gateshead. Its vast steel span unified the city in a single gesture, carrying thousands across the river each day. Built with shipyard precision and industrial confidence, it stands as a bold symbol of connection
