Yesterday we said farewell to my father-in-law, Terry- Andy’s step dad 💔 and Immy and Errol’s grandad.

Terry was great. He was kind and mischievous and totally equipped to do anything in this world, and I suspect any other. He was a hippy-wizard, loved trees and made art. Most of his paintings feature an eagle 🦅 which is fairly symbolic of his world view and his deep understanding of many things.

I didn’t realise I was doing this but I’ve been documenting his studios for years- they were so fascinating. We even made a film in one whilst he built a huge bonfire for the famous hog-tied naked man scene that showed at L’Oréal Fashion Festival and won a best cinematography award.

Terry loved building teepees and once built one made from recycled tent flys that looked like a kaleidoscope when you were in it. This kind of magical experience is indescribable and one I will always remember.

His absence leaves a large hole in this world to the people that encountered him, but I don’t feel like he’s gone, but more that he’s everywhere. 🧡 I’ll be seeing you Terry x

Now only a few weeks until our awesome band of sponsors and helpers go live with our (very proudly) 10th Annual Melbourne MOSS Deck Art Show. Started a long time ago at Ministry of Art in St Kilda and now our third show at Lionia Gallery in Chapel street South Yarra. (Huge thanks Lionia, we understand what a mission that is...)
It’s not a “skate art” show. Rather, an art show using the narrow / long format of a skate deck as the canvas. No rules, artists can do anything they like. 90 plus decks up for bids on the night, and ALL FUNDS RAISED go to building life saving clean water projects in Swaziland. (We have our own dedicated planning and construction team)
We occasionally like to highlight the strong thread that links skateboarding and art, as we’re some of the “senior citizens” of Australian skateboarding..
One of our long term artist contributors is @salvadorgnarly Andy Murphy. The skate force is strong in this one.
Like Matt Green, Andy is a gutsy , talented local bowl skater with a wicked sense of humour which is always front and center in his art.
His entry this year drops Chopper Reid into Bones territory.
We’d love EVERYONE to come along to the show. Free beers courtesy of the awesome Balter brewery, and super tasty Bahn Mi rolls to keep your upright through the tense bidding process. Decks sell from as low as $150 so it’s not all woff woff / high dollar. All awesome. All rad. All free.
