Get Ready with Me: 1530s Cranach the Elder “Judith” Edition. This 16th c Eastern German-style gown, also known as a Saxony Court gown, was popular in the first half of the 1500s around Wittenberg and its surrounding areas. These gowns are often called Cranach gowns because they frequently appear in the paintings of Lucas Cranach the Elder and the Younger. One of his most enduring and visually striking themes in these paintings is Judith with the Head of Holofernes. For this project, I made the linen frauenhemd (chemise), a linen underdress with a silk “peek-a-boo” hem; a fine linen gollar (partlet); a velvet and cloth-of-gold gown; and a velvet hat adorned with styled ostrich feathers. I have blog articles for each piece, link in bio. The rings and brooch are from @armourandcastings. Purse by RowanTree Workshops. Major hat tip to @sam.the.bard for the fantastic music.
