Part I - The First Look

March 4th, 2026. 5:00am.

When I awoke from my slumber, the world felt off. Peering to my right, I found a void larger than the hotel room itself staring into me. Gone was the morning ritual of a warm, gentle touch accompanied by a sleepy greeting, now replaced by a deafening silence. What followed was the sobering realization that this was by design.

I marched fourth, meticulously assembling my ensemble piece by piece. Pushing me through was our 10 year history running through my head like 35mm film. While I perfected my tie knot, the moment I first laid eyes on you in the University Union flickered by. Each piece of art and history we spent two entire days appreciating hand-in-hand at the Met flooded my mind as I placed each gold ring on my fingers. By the time I had reached the laces of my wingtips, my mind had reached the stressful months of preparation prior.

At City Hall, I awaited the most important arrival of my life. Distraction was only a quick fix to fight the apprehension and nervousness that shrouded my mind. Even Randy’s quick wit and his bottomless trunk of jokes could only keep me occupied for moments at a time. Each tick of my watch was paradoxical; one more second away but also one more second closer.

When I finally felt your gentle tap on my shoulder, the ticking ceased and nothing else in the world mattered. The voices of photographers calling to other brides-to-be, suits consulting other suits, and schoolchildren complaining on their field trip all faded. The moment I turned around, it was as if the universe paused and allowed me to take you in completely. Your radiant beauty left me speechless and in awe of how every detail from your hair to your dress to your bouquet all the way down to your shoes perfectly highlighted the essence of your being. I saw our future in your bright, reassuring eyes; a future ahead of us full of so much promise, joy, and commitment that was yet to captured on the film of my mind.

This was the moment of clarity, realization. This was the moment I knew you were my bride.

asking for your hand in marriage is the scariest thing i have ever done. scariest because of all the secrecy and inability to tell you anything. scariest because of the weight of monumental decisions and intricate planning behind the scenes. scariest because i was asking my bestfriend to join me on this arduous journey we call life.

yet, it became the most rewarding. rewarding because it all fell into place and i could finally tell you everything. rewarding because i had the privilege to express my profound love for you. rewarding because each shared moment together had led us to one moment, one invitation, one question.

thank you for loving me unconditionally and allowing me the joy of loving you for all that you are. thank you for all the years of triumphs and trials — growing, learning, and loving alongside one another. thank you for answering yes to my proposal and opening the door to our future together.

here’s to forever.
