Tell me of your despair and I will share mine.

Originally part of a Catholic Seminary, this chapel, nestled into the picturesque Italian countryside was built in the 1930's.
In its life, it would be a Jesuit School, Vocational School, a refugee center, and for 10 years, a small police station.
In 2001, an Armenian attempted to save the property, but quickly went bankrupt.
In 2021, there were prospectives of saving the structure, but nothing came to fruition.
Sometime in the 2000's, the center grave was smashed open, and looted.
Now, it sits decaying, with little to no upkeep.

Villa Politi/Villa Poli
Not much information is available about this over 100 year old Italian Villa.
Our explore here was cut short due to a very nosy neighbor, who happened to be awake at nearly 5am, overlooking the courtyard we needed to cut through to gain entry.
While we were fairly sure that any response to us would take a long time, we weren't keen on finding out. So, we quickly took pictures of the beautiful, Italianate Architecture and 19th century statues, still being stored inside.
After scrambling inside, @thelukeexplores realized he was missing his phone.
During our mad-dash out of the area, @sam_ssson just so happened to find the phone laying in the field directly behind the Villa.
Homie in the sky had our back on this day.

Italianate Institutional Architecture.
Large, imposing structures like this one express centralized power and social order.
Egyptian pyramids not only served as tombs but also as symbols of a great and divine authority, just as does this massive, intimidating prison, positioned in the center of an old Italian city.
The design chosen here allowed prison guards to see and monitor almost every prisoner; while the prisoner was unable to see the guard unless he was standing directly in front.
Prisons were originally invented to create rehabilitation through isolation of the mind. The layout of this prison attempted to provide immense isolation to each prisoner while providing maximum oversight to the guards.

On July 1st, 2025, I landed in Portugal with no plan beyond showing up - and no idea how the next four weeks were about to unfold.

Jet-lagged and wired, I checked into a small hostel with @sam_ssson and waited for @warden.wanders to arrive, tracking his flight as it crossed the Atlantic and realizing he didn’t actually have anywhere to go once he landed. Sam eventually crashed, and I stayed up on the balcony, staring out into the night, wondering what kind of trip I’d just signed myself up for.

Later that night, I met Warden for the first time. We grabbed a beer, wandered the streets, and started climbing around - letting the empty city guide us. This was the first stop of a month-long journey through Europe, before the trip had even really begun.

This abandoned biomedical research facility dates back to the late 19th century. Founded by a Portuguese academic inspired by Europe’s scientific breakthroughs, it operated for over a century before research moved to a modern complex about 15 years ago. Sealed, mothballed, and left behind - inventory still tagged, the future uncertain.

On this trip, filming came first. Photography came second. I was still getting comfortable with a new camera, and most of the photos I took that day didn’t turn out how I hoped.

I grabbed my phone and took a few extra shots.

Somehow, those ended up being the shots that stuck - an unplanned reminder of where the journey actually began.

The full exploration is up on my YouTube channel @thelukeexplores

Abandoned soviet-era swimming pool. Mosaics were envisioned and installed by Nugzar Medzmariashvili and Demur Basheleishvili in the 1980s in Zestafoni, Georgia.
Zestafoni has some truly spectacular Soviet-era mosaics and these are some of the best we saw on the entire trip.
The building is locked and guarded, so to see the mosaics we had to pay a man on the street to translate our English to Georgian so he could convince the guard (who seemed to be his friend) to let us in to photograph the pool, tucked away behind the old stadium.

The historic Crunden Martin has burned.

Constructed from 1905 to around 1920, Crunden Martin produced a wide range of products from refrigerators and school supplies to helmets for U.S. soldiers during the second world war.

The complex suffered a fire in 2011 that destroyed one building, and unfortunately it didn’t survive the second one.

It’s the same old story. The city announces redevelopment, and all of a sudden everything is on fire. This was not the fault of homeless people. This historic structure was intentionally destroyed.

I have a lot of good memories with friends here. Watching the last of these historic places go like this really sucks, and seeing this building itself reduced to nothing more than a pile of bricks is honestly the last straw for me. St. Louis is not the same after this one.
