If you were to ask me what LYAC was anytime before January 2026, I unfortunately would not have been able to tell you. I discovered LYAC while researching programs that would help me with another opportunity I was pursuing. At the time, I had absolutely no interest in law or government. Even so, I decided to apply because of one simple thing I have always been passionate about: creating impact and making a difference. And let me tell you, that is all you need.

I thought the application process would be easy since it was just a form with a few questions. But if you know me, you know I don’t do anything unless I can give it 110%. So, I spent weeks thinking about my responses and how I could truly show who I am and what I care about. After days of writing, revising, and rewriting, I finally submitted my application the day before the deadline.

Then came the hardest part: waiting. Luckily, I had plenty of other side quests to keep me busy, so I wasn’t constantly stressing, but I definitely thought about the outcome. That feeling only grew after hearing that so many people I looked up to had applied in previous years and hadn’t been accepted.

At the beginning of May, the results were finally announced. I’ll never forget that moment. I was sitting in my AP U.S. Government & Politics class, watching the livestream as they announced the new members. As Ms. Megan began reading the district representatives, my heart kept beating faster. Then I heard, “Congressional District 4, Ha Bui…” I immediately jumped out of my seat and gasped with excitement. Everyone around me was understandably confused, but I couldn’t stop smiling. From that moment on, I was incredibly proud to tell anyone who asked that I would be serving as a 2026–2027 LYAC member.

Fast forward to a few days before our July meeting. I started reading everyone’s biographies and learning about everything they had accomplished.
