in MoMoriam for our sweet baby angel @schlomomo 💔 Jan. 2013 - 9/19/26. thank you for letting me be your dog (step)dad, thank you @thereal_jakeycakes and @samarrell for letting me take care of our perfectly medium-sized babyboy MoMo, and for letting him take care of me too. “how you spend your days is how you spend your life” and we spent a lot of our days together.

dear MoMo, here are some of the things I will miss about you: coming into my room every morning after your walk for a quick cuddle, snuggling on the couch, getting underfoot in the kitchen, taking a nap on my bed when I’m in the middle of folding my clean laundry, insisting on getting underneath the covers when sleeping in my bed and then getting overheated after 20 min and insisting on getting out, your clickclacking nails on the hardwood, your dainty little trot, your soft ears, your stoic face, your side eye, your little leg hanging off the side of the couch, the feel of your belly, head scratches. the way you would insist on taking your sweet time and smelling everything on our walks. we didn’t know your birthday for sure but it always made sense to me that you were born in January and also a capricorn.

I will continue to find your white fur in my clothes for a long time to come. I have literally thousands of photos and videos of you and I can’t comprehend that there just won’t be any more.

Oh, MoMo. Peach in Japan. Dumpling in Tibet. Dog to a coupla ‘Mos. Street treat snatcher. Beach crustacean hunter. Pursuer of sticks 2-3x his length. Fire Island & Montauk summer shareholder (spent more time there than us). Instagram account holder @schlomomo . Dew claw breaker (from braking too hard in Prospect Park). Lox lover & lover of being chased. Fetcher of balls (but not returning them). Sand & dirt digger. World Class Cuddler.

Best friend to many, loved by all who met him, and so many of you have.

His origin story: spotted dodging traffic in a KFC drive thru in Tennessee and fostered by @lilyszajn & @cholo1120 & Lyle & @emuhhleee, who we found thanks to Matt & @sfrieds - thank you all. I will never forget @samarrell crying in The Container Store while we waited in suspense for whether MoMo would be allowed in the plane cabin since he was 1 lb too heavy.

If I had to point to one thing that sealed my decision to marry Sam, it would be how we handled getting MoMo. He was stubborn and frustrating and disobedient at times, but I don’t regret a second (same with Sam).

MoMo has been an integral part of my life for over 13 years. I haven’t wrapped my brain around him not being there everyday. I will miss: his clickclacking nails. His elegant, high-steppin trot. His soft, floppy, perfect dog ears that were the same from his first day with us to his last. His smell. The particular squeak he reserved for only @jordanrothstein and @vcgrr . The other squeal he reserved for playing with Rufus & Ruby. The way he’d put his head right to my hand when he wanted to be pet. His constant presence underfoot during cooking & meals. His morning routine waiting to be let into @weaselingaround ‘s room. His growl during tug. His bark of a dog much larger than he was, which was perfectly medium sized.

I am 💔 and yet MoMo will live on in my memory, yours, in thousands of pictures and videos, even on the license plate of our car. Thank you to @paws.at.peace for today. Thank you MoMo for telling us when it was time. You were a good dog and a good boy and I love you.

ROME! Pictured: me, @samarrell & @shinebrightlikeabrindle accidentally joining the Susan G. Komen breast cancer walk to the Coliseum, ruins everywhere, stopping to smell the roses, Brandeisians in front of the synagogue, the most Italian streetscape at night, some naked Roman statue the Vatican stole, coolest Italian map, an artichoke that may be the best bite of the trip in competition with the cacio e Pepe, and many food tour pics from our time with Giuseppe in Trastevere! Monica pointing out a 1000 yo mikvah in a wine bar cellar! Also bergamot juice and amaro is delicious. And spritzes are necessary.

EPIC. The one word to describe @staylev and @pauliefromdaburgh ‘s wedding day - it was an honor to co-officiate such a beautiful union and so nice of the bride & groom to give the guests the epic gift of FUN.

How did this first all-queer @oars_rafting trip come to be?

OARS is who we hired to take the cast of “Canyon Chorus” down Desolation Canyon when we filmed my documentary.

After the short film was finished, OARS staff watched it and were inspired to do their part to make The Great Outdoors more welcoming to LGBTQ+ people.

Thus, they launched 3 new all-LGBTQ+ rafting trips, to help encourage queer community on the water.

And it worked! One guest in this photo said, “I’ve gone on rafting trips with friends before, but seeing this all-LGBTQ+ trip made me feel secure about signing up solo.”

So whether you were part of this inaugural Rogue River (Oregon) trip from June 7-10, or you want to join the next one through Desolation Canyon (Utah) July 15-19 or the Main Salmon (Idaho) August 24-29, know that these trips were designed with the goal of welcoming LGBTQ+ people to the wonderful world of rafting in a way that makes it extra comfortable and fun.
