This scholarship will support Cranstoun’s practice by covering institutional fees for one academic year at a leading international art program. ANNOUNCEMENT / 📣Meet the Class of 2027📣   Samstag is pleased to announce Sam Cranstoun (QLD) as a recipient of the prestigious Samstag International Visual Arts Scholarship for 2027.

Cranstoun will receive a scholarship that provides institutional fees for one academic year, a $75,000 tax-free allowance, and travel expenses to a leading international art program of their choice.

Sam Cranstoun works across painting, sculpture, video and installation, investigating how the legacy of modernist visual language continues to evolve across contemporary contexts. 
“Cranstoun takes the combinatory approach underlying these discourses to absurdity through applying them in a straightforward and unembarrassed way to Modernism. The unhinged and strangely beguiling results thus take the combinatory logics of provincialism, academicism and our AI-suffused lives to extremes, and the resultant absurdity functions as a critique of these discourses.”

The magazine articles tie into the rest of the gallery; articles link to artist pages, artworks, exhibitions, viewing rooms and enquiries, so a story can lead straight to the works and artists. Article templates are all customisable drag and drop sections in Sanity, with a range of header styles, allowing the editorial team to achieve different feelings per article. The floating quick action toolbar keeps every issue, artist and article close by as you read, detached on purpose from the rest of the gallery’s sub-nav’s. You can browse by issue, feature, editorial or artists. Sydney Contemporary 2026. I came, I saw, I remember almost none of it 😅 So much art, so much talking, so much “oh my god, hi! It has been a hectic arty week - I have been in both Sydney and Melbourne to attend art fairs, openings, exhibitions and tours… it was a lot. Too much for just one post, so I am breaking it up into key events starting with Sydney Contemporary. As usual the collector’s preview of Sydney Contemporary was a frenetic time of glancing at art in between bumping into and chatting with friends and colleagues. It is the best time to meet with artists and gallerists because so many of us are there in one place at one time. Fortunately I got to pop back for a second look on Saturday and was able to actually see some work. Art fairs are endurance tests, your eyes can get tired and it can all feel a little blurry. I enjoyed some of the great work on display, but felt overall that I had seen most things before… Here are a few pieces that I enjoyed.
