Life update: finished my master's degree in Microbiology/ski mountaineering in Zurich, and started a PhD in Davos, Switzerland, in the allergy institute SIAF! I've been having a great time since I started, the institute is great (fuck paperwork but aside from that), the people are cool, and the location might be impossible to beat, for a biology research institute. Mega stoked to live in the mountains again (besonders mit Rhätischebahn uhh), and I'll get to ski or mountain bike to work at least 10 months a year here. Insane. To celebrate, here are a few highlights from the last year, in no particular order - impossible to fit everything and many many adventures, particularly from last summer, have been dropped, mostly due to my difficulties figuring out how to only allow the billionaires to see some of my data, instead of all. I was incredibly fortunate to have spare time and money for travel in the last year, and had great trips to Maine, Michigan, WA, Georgia the country, Norway the country, Croatia the country, Budapest and Bratislava the cities, Idaho the phenomenon, and many nooks and crannies in Switzerland. I also got 84 ski days in so far this season, starting in October. I still need a ski plan for July but my fingers are crossed harder than my buttcheeks are clenched. 84 days of gnarly skiing in 5 countries also yielded a few reminders, and while I have not yet been proved to be mortal, the last two slides here may not be pleasant for all. You've been warned. It's been a fun, scary, scarily fun year. I'll be in Davos for a while - come visit!

If you can’t take the joke, get yourself a helmet to cry into.
Don’t take it too seriously 😉✌️

One of my favorite things in skiing, especially when I'm alone, is to do a new line from visual inspection only. During my first competition at the @poederbaas NK Freeride, I was lucky that the line which looked like the most interesting skiing all while having good landmarks turned out to be the winning run. The nerves and the added adrenaline from the competition made the quick line some of the most exciting skiing I've ever done, and I had to lay down to take it in when I got to the bottom.

Congratulations to @thijnvanheijnsbergen for absolutely stomping the biggest cliff of the day, so cool to be on the podium with you. After @arnie_lammers makes a full recovery let's try to all make it on there next year.

Heel erg bedankt iedereen💜

Spinal fusion of thoracic vertebrae 3 through 9 after an accident in May 2024.

I came across a reel (just in the right moment) from @samde__vries that made me laugh because it mirrored my own experiences over the past two years. Oh! the struggles, the frustratioooon - I’ve been there. So, I decided to add some humor to my story, just like he did.

So I would like to share some of his words… “Injuries took time. They took comfort. They took certainty. But they never took the love. And as long as that’s still there, I’ll keep coming back. And you will too, you got this!”
