Freelance dancers keep New York City’s dance ecology moving. ✨ They shape culture, build community, and contribute to a more equitable creative landscape. DWR Fund grantees often describe this support as both practical and deeply affirming: easing financial pressure while reinforcing that freelance dance work is real, valued, and worthy of investment. As we approach the final DWR Fund deadline on March 3, we encourage eligible dancers to apply for this one-time $1,000 grant supporting contracted performance work in the NYC metro area. The DWR Fund exists to recognize your labor, your artistry, and your role in the broader dance community. Apply today at Dance.NYC/DWRFund. White text reads, ‘The DWR Fund is a direct recognition of the enduring impact made by NYC’s dance artists, like myself. It not only acknowledges our freelance work as a viable profession, but as a form of radical advocacy that contributes to building a more diverse and equitable society. What becomes possible when we bring personal story, artistic practice, and community vision into conversation with neuroscience? In this opening episode of Season 2, we’re joined by Szewah Chin — communications expert, journalist, and Board Chair of DanceStream Projects — and Hilary Brown-Istrefi — dancer, choreographer, teaching artist, and podcast editor. Together, they reflect on the need for more spaces that bridge the arts, neuroscience, and community practice — not as separate disciplines, but as shared pathways toward belonging, meaning, and brain health. This conversation invites us to imagine what’s next — and to ask what kinds of dialogues we still need to be having. 🎧 Full episode available now on Spotify and Apple Podcasts (link in bio). What questions or conversations are you curious to explore with us this season?

‼️‼️SCHEDULE ANNOUNCEMENT‼️ The Summer Happenings Festival is back for a 4th year and this time it’s all happening on one big, hot, wet day in Red Hook! ☀️🌊🔥 Join us SUNDAY JULY 27 2:00-8:30pm for a day of FREE performances from @wakingstephanie @sameassister @evanxray @grons__ @janessaclark @fro_babes @uwillconsumeus @ahameline @___soft_rush @asiastewart All performances will be held in @coffeystreet_studio or Valentino Pier Park. See the schedule above for more info! 👏👏👏 This year’s theme arose naturally out of 2025: COMPOSURE IN THE FACE OF CHAOS. We curated a group whose work already wrestles with the idea of how artists function amidst constant rupture — rupture in our city, country and world; in our economy and ecology; in our personal lives and broader communities … in everything. How do we compose our work and ourselves in this environment? How do we keep making silly little art projects and how do we insist on their importance? Is the confusion of art making reparative in this moment of rupture? Or are we just kidding ourselves? 🫠 Reserve your FREE tickets now via link in bio and find more info at amandaplusjames.com 👯curated by @ahameline and @brendandrakechoreography

Repost from @dancestream_projects • Meet our amazing team! 🙌🏽 @hbsquared_projects My name is Hilary Brown-Istrefi and I’m a Canadian-American director and choreographer based in NYC. I’ve been collaborating with @dancestream_projects since 2023 as a co-teaching artist, and I’m always inspired by the level of creativity each participant brings to sharing their stories through movement. Fun Fact: I’m an identical twin! My twin sister Briana and I create performances together via our collective, @sameassister.

Join us this tonight, May 3 at 7pm, for a HERE RAW presentation of Upstairs, In Our Bedroom by Same As Sister! Upstairs, In Our Bedroom is an autobiographical performance that radically reimagines Same As Sister’s experiences as female identical twins of color next to those of outsider authors, June & Jennifer Gibbons (a.k.a. The Silent Twins). Utilizing dance, text, VR technology, and puppetry, they will reveal the powerful and painful intersections between twinship, blackness, madness, and art-making. For more information and tickets, visit the the link in bio, or: https://here.org/shows/here-raw-upstairs-in-our-bedroom/
