One of the sculptural components of PANDEMONIUM: building the tornado machine, feeding it a vast amount of information/stuff/headlines with a kind of frenetic choreography and DADA sense of chance. What information would emerge through our relentless physical feeding.... Tornado Machine: Michael Thron @mrthron , fabricator; Cooper Campbell @coopercampbell ; Billy Dufala @bdufala , Creative Director, RAIR; Anthony Patrick @my_rair_lady , Yard Liason, RAIR; Catia Colagioia @catiacolagioia ; Alicia Riccio @alicia__riccio ; Eliza Culp @eliza_culp; Tairan Hao @tyhao629 ; Sasha Waters videoguns ; Ella Konefal; Sithabo Mathe @sithabomathe ; Uchi Murima; Dylan Li @dylanliiii ; Sol Kim @s0lk1m ; Rami George @rami_george ; Sam Gleit @samgleit ; Vaikhari Kharul @vaikhari_kharul ; Jacob Weinberg @wacob_jeinberg, videographer. Thanks to everyone above for participating in this choreography in the hot sun and wind conditions. I can't thank you enough for the catharsis. @bdufala on bullhorn and then me too screaming.....

Day 3 of film shoot: In 2015, I met curator @cole.akers and we began a conversation about the possibility of a collaboration. I had recently made my mirrored smoke clouds and was hoping to do a project with him that was more immersive about violence/explosions/ terrorism, collapse, calamity— both political and evironmental. The conversation evolved towards thinking about cultural maelstrom, information tornadoes and then placing the viewer in the eye of the storm amidst the debris. In 2016 I got hired at Penn and was told to check out @rairphilly. I began a conversation with @billydufala then about this idea. We immediately connected and started the throwing around the idea for the next 8 years (!!). We got busy separately with other projects. The pandemic happened. This film shoot is one element among many in this complex project entitled “Pandemomium” that will eventually be screened as a multi-layered performance and screening. The project has been funded by UPenn @weitzman_school faculty grants, @guggfellows , and finally @pewcenterarts has funded this last leg. These images are the process of the film shoot amidst the remains of the catapulted tornado debris from @rair_philly with 360 DPs Uli Futschik and Joergen Geerds, a great team of former Penn students, dedicated collaborators and friends who have supported and inspired including @gablaughin @thegalleriesatmoore @naughtonpaula @ill_iterate @djhellerman @fabricworkshop and of course @rair_philly and @bdufala @kshins. Can’t wait to show it to you in September 2025 when it will finally premiere @franklininstitute. Photos by @wacob_jeinberg

stacking is a methodology is a series of events...and when done carefully it is a real labor of love. when picking up a fallen stack and preparing to rearrange the balancing act, stacking is a commitment.
