As much as I like ONLY DRAWING PICTURES, this project requires a lot more than just drawing pictures. I asked a few friends to test out the process for me, and they graciously submitted photos and went through the whole rigamarole so that I could work out the kinks. I’m sure I’ll have to iron out some kinks as the summer progresses, but I feel pretty good thanks to these people.

Some of them are running a marathon in New York, some of them are New Yorkers running marathons elsewhere, some of them are pro runners, pro coaches, pro illustrators, or pro union, and all of them have my heartfelt gratitude for helping make this project possible.

Olivia Simone @ohhliviasimone and Daniel Fermin Pfeffer @dannypfeffer957 made an experimental 8mm film, “see what You want to see,” set in the nostalgic past. It follows a young working couple trying to enjoy a date night, from the point of view of their young child, played by the camera. Shot in a single take, the crew could not edit or sync audio, or even see the picture.

Last year, I turned 32 in a hospital surrounded by love, and unsure where I would be in a year. This year I turn 33 in London, watched my brother run the marathon, and enjoyed high tea with my dearest loved ones. I’m not sure where this world is going; with neo-imperialism, technocracy, late stage capitalism & multiple genocides reaching a boiling point. Friends suddenly passing and crossing the ancestor realm, but I know I’ve accepted that the only way to intact change within myself, my inner sphere and outer sphere is to accept the turbulent waves and pivot. Rest when possible. And understand that humanity and community comes at a reasonable price.

Let’s see where I end up next.

2.5 years later… I finished all 7 world major marathons. Will not lie that 5 marathons in a year is not something I would ever recommend but so proud to have completed this journey. Thanks to the AMAZING support system who got me through this (yall know who you are 😊). So excited to kind of stop racing for a bit 😉
