🇺🇸5 years ago i got back from one of the most miserable deployments of my life that i was stuck on for about 12-14 months, i knew if i wanted to make sure i didn’t have to settle and make this my life forever i had to move quickly. I had 1.5 years left on my military contract and a i was 2 years behind on college due to me leaving for the military halfway through the year. I felt so behind, i was working 3 different jobs and doordashing to make sure i had enough to get through college.

I was still struggling with substance issues especially when i got back and i quickly realized that my environment was causing most of these i stopped talking to anyone who i thought wasn’t bettering themselves, anyone who was making excuses, anyone who i knew wasn’t trying to achieve something, and only wanted to be around those who wanted more out of life.

No longer being around the very thing that caused me so much anxiety it made it very easy to get sober, i fell in love with Kickboxing immediately as it was something I’ve wanted to do since i was 10 but couldn’t afford it, or was told it wasn’t necessary by family.

I was in one of the worst mental states possible on that deployment and there was something so freeing of having absolutely nothing to lose, nothing felt risky because there was no where else to go but up…. Thank you to everyone who made this life i can only dream up possible if you were tagged you definitely help! within only a few years 🙏

📝 One of the saddest and truest realities of going through severe self growth journeys is your most likely going to do something that I referred to as cleaning out your closet there’s gonna be a lot of friends and people that due to your self growth and their lack of ability to grow themselves cannot come along for the ride one of the smartest things and hardest things that I have to do is choosing loneliness over just accepting anybody in my life. It was not many, but cutting off the people in my life who might not have been bad people, but I just knew we’re never going to have severe growth to the extent that I quite envisioned in my brain, the constant complainers, the victims in every circumstance, the ones that are comfortable with mediocrity and do not seek out challenges in life. I chose to avoid those people despite them maybe even being nice people… for a long time you wonder if you’re ever gonna find your group and when you’re looking for something with so many filter filters it can feel impossible.

The reality is people in your life that refuse to grow, will make you seem like the bad guy for outgrowing them. They will see you doing something that’s different than the norm and will your ambitions and strive to success as competition in a constant reminder of their lack of motivation, making them grow animosity towards you.

I am by far, not even close to the most talented person in any of the sports that I competed and I’m not genetically gifted, I never had any severe help financially and was completely on my own by about 16 to 17 years old. My family made it as difficult as it possibly could to strive for independence, the only thing that I had with me is that I will constantly persevere and that is the only thing I could promise myself is that I will keep trying because the guarantee/stability of a life of mediocrity will always scare me more than the risk of the life i have always dreamed of……

Coaches and friends you guys will never realize the impact you have on changing people’s lives. Appreciate you all and I’m sure there’s many others! (Tagged in video)
