ABSOLUTE CINEMA. @princewiserofficial delivers a cinematic masterpiece with his latest project “Vicious” giving us his personal POV as a Black man living in New York City. Tracks like “Chiller” open with the not-so-subtle soundscape of an average noisy day in the concrete jungle, immediately placing you in the environment. The themes and subject matter throughout the project are powerful enough to evoke emotion while simultaneously keeping your ear active to catch the intentional rhyme patterns and witty bars woven throughout.

Track 2, “Negro League’n” feat. @cheenoghee, may be my favorite and the standout record. Prince Wiser directs his verse at the current landscape of performance platforms and media personalities, calling attention to those he believes profit off Black imagery without properly compensating the artists behind it. A very thought-provoking record that challenges the way we look at the relationship between artists, media, and the platforms benefiting from their work.

The story being told becomes more vivid as we travel through this carefully arranged tracklist. Every feature shows up understanding the assignment, delivering expertly crafted poetry that complements Prince Wiser’s message. His hooks throughout the project also showcase his vocal range and ability to use his voice as an instrument, adding another layer to the overall experience.

“Vicious” caters to the true hip-hop fan, the listener who looks beyond a catchy hook and melodic beat to appreciate the craftsmanship behind the music. This is an album that rewards you for paying attention, from the production and storytelling to the lyrical details that reveal themselves with every listen.
