Day 5 | The kind of ending you can’t plan

We woke to a light sea breeze drifting through the Goto Islands and started the day with a breakfast full of local flavors.

Served in a traditional Japanese ohitsu, the meal felt like opening a little treasure box from Goto.

With full stomachs and softer smiles, there was also a hint of sadness on everyone’s faces.
It was our final day and even the sky seemed to know it.

For lunch, we joined a workshop at @une.goto and turned Goto’s city flower, the camellia, into colorful sushi.

Rolling sushi was easier said than done, but little by little, every plate began to reflect the personality of its maker.

Then the rain came.

Our outdoor BBQ had to be canceled, and while the team was wondering what to do next, one participant simply said:

“Why don’t we have a pajama party?”

And just like that, the plan changed.

The dress code became the soft cotton pajamas waiting for us at Colorit.

In our maisonette-style room with a balcony kitchen, everyone gathered to cook the ingredients we had prepared for the BBQ.

We stretched out on the sofas, shared juicy Goto beef and vegetables we had harvested ourselves, and talked about the days behind us and the journeys ahead.

Outside, the rain quietly kept the beat.

As the tour came to an end, NomadResort invited everyone to sit in a circle and share what this retreat had meant to them.

This is one of my favorite moments.

Then, as a surprise, we played a Looking Back video of the journey we had shared.

Somewhere between the laughter, the memories, and the silence after the video, a bond had formed—one that could only have happened here in Goto.

By the time we noticed, the rain had stopped.

Day 1 | Welcome to Goto.

The overnight ferry from Fukuoka gently passes between the islands as morning arrives.

By plane, the journey begins with views of Goto’s coastline and dazzling blue beaches.

This was the start of a five-day tour shared by 10 participants and 4 community managers.

Our first taste of Goto was Onisaba Battera, a local pressed mackerel sushi.

After a short break, we drove to Takahama Beach for sunset before gathering for our welcome dinner.

Another group of around 20 travelers happened to be there, and soon everyone was sharing drinks the Goto way—Yattatotta.

The night continued at a local karaoke snack bar, singing and laughing alongside island locals.

It already felt like we were becoming part of the community.

And this was only Day 1.

Special Thanks✨

Day 3 Becoming Part of Goto🌿🐟✨

A day of experiencing Goto’s local food culture, where the island’s gifts nourish you, and you become part of its natural cycle.

The harbor comes alive before sunrise.
At Goto’s bustling fish market, the freshest catch arrives one after another. Even the local cats seem to gather for their own morning meeting, deciding which fish looks the best.

And we didn’t just watch.

Fresh fish quickly became an unforgettable seafood bowl for breakfast.

With full stomachs and happy hearts, we spent the morning connecting with the local community.

Nicholas, @nichosensei , shared the challenges the island faces beyond its beautiful scenery.
Later, local high school students shared their dreams and experiences with us, reminding us how much we can learn from one another.

That was the moment we stopped feeling like visitors and truly became part of Goto.

In the afternoon, we headed into the fields to harvest fresh okra at @iki_ikigoto
Carefully picking each one by hand made us appreciate the work behind every meal.

The vegetables became ingredients for a home-cooked dinner together a few days later.

As soon as the skies cleared, we jumped into the car and drove through Saikai National Park.
The sunset slowly painted the landscape, and the golden light felt like Goto’s own way of welcoming us.

The day ended with local karaoke, followed by one of the most unforgettable nights of the trip.

The sky finally cleared.
Above us stretched countless stars, as if they were falling from the heavens.

From sunrise to starlight, the schedule was full.
Yet somehow, no one felt tired.

That’s the magic of Goto.
It doesn’t just show you beautiful places.
It quietly makes you feel like you belong🌿💙

Special thanks 😊

Day 4 Finding Your Own Rhythm 🌊🌿

After days filled with vibrant local culture and meaningful connections, it was time to slow down and simply enjoy the island in our own way.

We moved to Colorit Goto Islands @___colorit___ , where ocean-view rooms and the gentle sea breeze invited us to pause and breathe.

Some joined the amazing team at ASOBI @colorit_asobi for a SUP adventure, gliding across the calm waters as the rhythm of the waves matched the beat of our hearts.

Even work felt different here.
At Umikaze Cafe @kissa_umikaze , surrounded by open skies and fresh sea air, creativity came naturally.

Later, we wandered to the famous Ako Tree House @gotoakohouse , guided by Nicholas @nichosensei . Standing beneath the enormous banyan trees felt like stepping into a Studio Ghibli film.

As evening approached, everyone gathered again for a vegan cooking class led by our community manager @hi._sunshine @une.goto .
Using fresh ingredients grown in Goto, each person prepared a meal that nourished both body and mind.

Although everyone had spent the day differently, we came back together one last time.

Cooking Japanese Curry together, sharing stories, laughter, and gratitude, we realized something special.

In just four days, strangers had become a community.
