Fort Friendship, 8.30.25

For my birthday I built a fort in the park.

I’d been cobbling this for some time—collecting fabrics from special places and inserting references to homes and forts of my past.

Plenty of wonderful people stopped by. I’m so grateful for the people who’ve helped me shape a life.

Win this giant beautiful communally made quilt made over three months by over 75 sewists from Seattle and across the country! It measure 6’x8’, provides lots of warmth and endless details to explore. All proceeds go to @the_long_haul_kitchen

The Long Haul Mutual Aid Kitchen is a grassroots, volunteer-led weekly mutual aid group running on the motto of “solidarity not charity”. The organization takes hot meals directly to people living in tents and RVs in the Georgetown and SODO neighborhoods of Seattle, distributing an average of 120 meals per week. Along with food, the group also distributes harm reduction and hygiene supplies, and operates a propane exchange to distribute fuel used for cooking and warmth.

This quilt turned out huge and BEAUTIFUL because you all showed up so dang hard! Thank you to everyone who contributed your beautiful quilt squares, shared your skills and experience in our quilt circles and in your letters and shared this project with your network.

Just got some film rolls back and I’m especially jazzed about a couple of snaps from Sam’s visit to LA last month. It always makes you feel cool to see cool photos you took of your friends looking cool.

Really though I’m so obsessed with the first photo & last few (for similar reasons) but I think I’m mostly just obsessed with Sam.

Our friendship is over 15 years old and I’m sitting here looking at these pictures feeling so grateful to know Sam the way that I do. Someone who’s seen all my eras and personal growth over the years is a value that only passing of time could show me.

Sam reminds me of who I’ve always been and who I’d like to be - I’m so lucky my circle continues to cross paths with his again & again. Some of my favorite times in life have been in the midst of those intersections.

& I’d like to do more of that.
