Next stop: Eugene, Oregon 💚

Life has a funny way of working out.

Over the last year, I went from running track and pursuing my master’s degree to stepping away from the sport I loved and diving deeper into sports media. There were a lot of unknowns, but every conversation, opportunity, and person I met along the way helped lead me here.

My time with the @horizonleague and @mclendonfoundation has been nothing short of a blessing, and I’m forever grateful for the people who made it so special.

I’ll be joining @tracktownusa as a Social Media Producer. Being able to cover the sport I love while doing what I love feels like an answered prayer and a true full-circle moment.

Here’s to trusting the process, embracing change, and saying yes to new beginnings. ✨

apical periodontitis did not killed me ahh… could‘ve complaining but I am too thankful🥹

I was truly blessed to have attended the 2026 @ncaa Emerging Leaders Seminar. Grateful for the lessons that I learned from leaders whose wisdom earned through time, challenges and unwavering commitment, even more grateful for sharing space with the people whose driven by purpose, courage and the desire to shape the future of the sport industry just like me.

Every conversation, connection, insight, laugh and friendship that I made—something I will carry with me into what’s next.

Through the hardships to the stars. It is not a goodbye, it is a see you later:)👋✨

📣 Meet Sa’Mone Winters, McLendon Leadership Initiative Messaging Fellow with the @horizonleague.

Sa’Mone is no stranger to balancing excellence on and off the field. As a Division I track and field student-athlete at both @illinoisstateu and @iuhoosiers, she learned the discipline, resilience, and teamwork that now fuel her career in sports media.

Her passion for storytelling runs deep. She earned her B.S. in Journalism from Illinois State and is now pursuing her M.A. in Sports Journalism at @iuindianapolis. Along the way, she reported for TV-10 News, led classroom discussions on sports communication and DEI as a teaching assistant, and served as a social media intern with Illinois State Athletics.

Sa’Mone also created her own platform, Summing It Up With Sa’Mone, a podcast where athletes share their journeys, challenges, and triumphs. Through writing, reporting, podcasting, photography, and content creation, she has built a portfolio that gives athletes a voice and connects communities through sport.

Now, through her fellowship with the Horizon League, Sa’Mone will bring that same vision and creativity to amplify student-athlete stories and the impact of college athletics.

Welcome to the McLendon family, Sa’Mone. Your voice will inspire the next generation of leaders. ✨🙌
