YOU are the ones making Boise a Beacon of Hope!

There are countless people to thank for helping me reach an unreal 70.7% of the vote last Tuesday (also a record voter turnout in a district city council race at nearly 50% in D6). From door knockers to donors, folks putting signs in there yards, folks spreading the word, and the 8,482 voters, it was a community effort! Those record numbers have YOUR thumbprints on them, and I’m thankful, grateful, and inspired by every individual who joined the @jimmyforboise team!

I want to give a special thank you to my campaign manager Tiffani, my partner Erin, my door leaders Chelsea and Casey, my Treasurer Chris Mathias, my finance wizard Elle, the great Tony on the doors, Bonnie and Frank, the Nick and Jane Big Sign team, my ride or die Sam Sandmire, all the Dem Reps and Senators who jumped in to help, Karleen and Gene for the house party! All the @yesforboise folks we ran into on the doors, and every volunteer braved the weather to engage in real human to human interactions on the doors!

Thank you to these amazing leaders and organizations who have worked hard to make Boise the incredible community it is today. I’m honored to have worked alongside you during my time on Boise City Council and in the nonprofit sector. Boise is always stronger when we are working together.

Thank you for your support and your endorsement!

Ride on!

Unbelievable! 35 volunteers showed up this morning to knock on doors in the rain! We easily covered over 1000 doors, talking about my community-building efforts on Council, sharing the impact of the @yesforboise Clean Water and Open Space Levy, and promoting democracy in our incredible city!

This is what democracy is all about, regular people going door to door and having real human interactions. This is not only how you win elections, this is how you build a stronger and more engaged community.

I freaking love it!

Ride on Boise!

“As the most senior member of Boise City Council, a celebrated nonprofit leader, and community college professor, Jimmy has proven his commitment to Boise. His work in building a community where youth can grow, thrive, and be involved in creating positive change is truly remarkable!” - @samsandmire

I am so honored and excited to receive Sam Sandmire’s endorsement for my reelection campaign for Boise City Council District 6.

Sam has been a driving force in Boise and Idaho for years. She is a tireless advocate for youth, voting rights, healthcare, conservation, and education. Her work has been one of my biggest inspirations, and her support means the world to me!

History doesn’t repeat itself, but it often rhymes.

I’ve been thinking quite a bit about history recently and how it pertains to our country’s past, present, and future. Given that tomorrow marks another transition point in the history of our country, I thought I’d reflect on the past few months from my own experiences.

7 months ago, I quit my job, moved to Vegas, and went all-in on the 2024 election cycle. It felt like the most important thing I could do at that moment in time, and kicked off a whirlwind journey of exploration, struggle, learning, and growth.

To be clear, I did not campaign for any particular candidate. I volunteered for Nevada Question 3 (@yeson3nv) - a ballot initiative that was featured in the general election of Nevada. If passed, Question 3 would have implemented open primary elections & ranked-choice voting across the state.

I chose this initiative because I wanted to focus on what I believe to be one of the biggest challenges facing our society: political polarization. If passed, Question 3 would have de-incentivized polarization, increased collaboration & consensus, and made political candidates more accountable to their constituents - not political parties or corporations.

Question 3 actually passed as a ballot initiative in Nevada in 2022, but due to a quirk in the Nevada state constitution, legislation must be passed twice consecutively to make the amendment binding. Initiatives such as this one had been passing routinely across the country since 2018, and this one was one of many electoral reform packages in the 2024 slate of states, including Oregon, Idaho, Colorado, Arizona, Montana, and South Dakota.

For the next few months, I collaborated with Question 3 advocates across Nevada, attended dozens of campaign events, and spoke with hundreds of voters across the political spectrum. I even had the opportunity to travel to Idaho to canvass with leaders and 2000+ grassroots volunteers for Idaho Proposition 1 (ID equivalent to NV Question 3).

Our leaders gathered this weekend to deliberate our mission statement and long-term strategy: BABE VOTE empowers young people to organize their communities for democracy. We define pro-democracy organizing to be not exclusively related to electoral action but rather rooted in the ideas of fundamental human rights, social contract, and robust civil society which form the foundation for self-governance. We incubate pro-democracy youth social groups, build intentional, resilient pro-democracy communities, advocate for student voice and voting rights, and register young people to vote.

More information will be forthcoming. We are excited to build power for democracy alongside y’all in 2025 and beyond.
